This album has some standout songs (Pawn Shop Blues) the aesthetic is also cool but the production is well, dated to be kind.
Since release I have refused to listen to this album by revisiting it and I was shocked to realise it was worse than I thought it is truly awful. A handful of tracks are half decent but the majority is total slop
Lana truly proved herself as a dynamic artist form a Americana pop album to a sullen album focused around troubled relationships.
I still haven't fully understood this album after 2 years. But that doesn't take away form this album its a masterpiece.
Jon Batiste Interlude is fucking amazing.
"You act like a kid even though you stand six foot two"
This will forever stand out as Lana's most critically successful album and there is a reason this album truly transports you to another world.
Because of its implications to modern pop this album isn't just a album its a groundwork for the modern pop star.
I threw myself into a volcano.
I drank the blood and drank the wine.
I sat alone and begged and bent at the waist for God.
I crossed myself and thought I saw the devil.
I grew thickened skin on my feet.
I bathed in bleach and plugged my menses with pages from the Holy Book.
But still inside me coiled deep was the need to know.
Are you cheating? Are you cheating on me?
