Talking Heads not making it as good as a 77/100 was the worst thing about this album
Oneohtrix Point Never is a name most people have probably heard but don't know who he is. He's used many monikers before, including his real name, Daniel Lopatin, and also his one time vaporwave tag Chuck Person, singlehandedly creating the genre. This is one of his earlier releases, and one of his most popular overall. Replica mostly uses samples from around the 80s or 90s, and while it isn't directly vaporwave it wouldn't be a far stretch. If to be specifically placed into a subgenre, it ... read more
it starts off pretty mid but has some good songs as it goes on I will not fib
somehow the bandcamp description was not lying, best black midi album yet and im hyped for the next one whenever that may be
What can be said about the best rap album ever made at this point? While this isn't my personal favorite, it's still VERY high up there, and my pick for overall best. On Madvillainy, it feels like the beats bend for DOOM in a way. The way that they are slightly off pitch and not just right in many occasions fit perfectly with the at first disorienting feeling of DOOMs offset verses. Speaking of those beats, this is gorgeous. It has this feeling of muted color, such as the album artwork, and has ... read more
Dots and Loops creates a fantastic, fun mesh of genres for you to relax and sink into for 70 minutes, mainly falling under the electronic category. The production on this is lush and tropical while the vocals are gorgeous and work as a supporting texture to the overall soundscape. The record also flows pretty well, not the best of all time but it doesn't have many super jarring cuts throughout from track to track. I'm new to the record, so I can't say much else, but I know I'll be coming back ... read more
Duster is a band that I've recently fallen in love with. They make music that is so bittersweet and emotionally charged it could power (or drain) an entire city. So it makes me a little ashamed to say that I've only actually heard one of their albums, Stratosphere. However, I was listening to something on youtube while playing Minecraft, and Me And The Birds, the biggest song off of this album, came on autoplay and I thought to myself "This sounds like Duster." I checked, and it was, ... read more
This is the first time I have ever heard anything from Grouper. I had no clue what genre they even dabbled in. For anyone what isn't aware, its ambient, and pretty damn good shit as well. This album is very serene, with lush and wide soundscapes that you can just sink into. This is also an EP I believe, and this is probably the best one I have ever heard. There isn't much competition for that title really, but this feels really whole. Every song delivers on the feeling of the album, and with ... read more
This is probably the biggest album I've reviewed yet, and I'm gonna try and explain my opinion on the album thoroughly. blonde was always one of those albums that I thought was cool, but never got the hype for. When I'd think about my opinion on it, I'd say "it's cool" pretty much. I thought it was overrated when I first heard it in maybe 2019 or 2020, and to kind of jump ahead, I still do. But I listened to it ALOT of times, somewhere around 20 or 30 times, and just I wad starting to ... read more
what a nice young rapper I wonder what he is
but actually this song is absolutely off the rails insane and its one of the most entertaining songs I've ever heard (talking about the 13 minute version). Andre always comes out of nowhere and features on a song with an immaculate verse and this is definitely one of the highlights. Possibly one of the most engaging songs of all time as well, for a 13 minute run I haven't ever gotten bored before.
I can definitely say I didn't expect this when I went into this. I was completely blind going in and I think that I gained a lot from it. Most of the following shit may sound stupid, but that's because until I was writing this review I actually didn't see the unfinished album text, but I take what I take from the album regardless of that so yeah. This is pretty much as lo-fi as it gets, feeling like a recording of a recording. It's also very sparce production wise with only 2 things really ... read more
"Drop out of life with bong in hand" being the first lyrics to this behemoth of an album, 9 minutes in no less, tells you all you'll need to know. The absolute insanity of the story behind this album and why it took so long to come out is truly an amazing story, and I highly recommend looking into it. But, in short, it released as one hour long song in 2003, and it is possibly the quintessential stoner metal album. It's sick as fuck the entire way through, which is absolutely ... read more
This is really sick. I hadn't heard anything by Denzel before, I think that he has a really good flow and amazing production on this album, like my god I think it's really good and definitely some of my favorite production of the 2020s so far. The lyricism is also pretty damn solid, which just adds to everything. The features do add to the album as well, all of them pretty solid the whole way through. But yeah, this is a really solid conscious hip hop album that for me is the hip hop album of ... read more
