This album will probably go down in history as one of the most influential alternative rock albums.
Without Daydream Nation, and Sonic Youth in general, we probably wouldn’t know alt/indie rock like we know it today. Sure, this record is a little messy, but it really added a memorable and iconic sound. My only complaint is how some of the songs drag out for too long, but even then I can’t really critique. Overall, Daydream Nation is a very essential listen that every alternative ... read more
WHAT KIND OF MOUSE MADE THIS????
I’d call this an essential 2000s alternative/indie album. Some MM fans claim this album is too “commercial,” but even if it is signed with a major label, I still love the music contained. 8.5/10 for me, and I will be listening to this again!
Favorite tracks: The World At Large, Float On, The View
Hmmmm this one is weird
The first four songs are nearly perfect, but the last four are just OK. I certainly enjoy Eno’s production on this though. I just wish this album was more consistent.
Dare I say it’s their best album to date?
Foster the People dropping a new album is not what I expected this year. It would be like your favorite TV series ending, only to release another season seven years later. That’s kind of what I felt back in May this year, when they released this album’s main single, Lost in Space.
As for the music on this album, you can clearly see influence from Discovery-era Daft Punk, Talking Heads, and 70s disco. The production on here is ... read more
A satisfyingly consistent noise rock album from the 90s.
Never heard any of Sebadoh’s work prior to hearing this, but I know they were popular in the 90s underground rock scene. With that said, you can certainly hear and understand how much this album inspired the modern indie rock scene that we all love to stan. Also, Not a Friend is now one of my favorite songs of all time and deserves more praise.
An incredible electropop album that deserves more appreciation.
It’s fun, the production is clean, and Mark’s writing is keen but catchy at the same time. I probably listened to Torches every other day back in middle school while on the bus, so I can’t help but feel nostalgic.
Wow! :D
To be honest, I thought this was going to be another generic EDM album. I was wrong.
I've head a lot of talk about Porter Robinson and about his previous album, Nurture, but I've never actually listened to any of his music prior. And here we are.
I was honestly not too big on the opener, but when Cheerleader and Russian Roulette played...it left my jaw on the floor. That bridge in Russian Roulette is just something else. Those two tracks really got my hooked and excited for ... read more
Kinda overrated, but a ground-breaking trip hop record.
My mom is actually a huge fan of Portishead, so I've been familiar with this album for a while now. Well I finally gave it a listen, and it was not at all what I was expecting. I thought this album had a lot of filler and watered-down tracks just to add in runtime. Some of the songs felt much longer than they actually are.
But the highs on this album are insane. Sour Times might be one of the best songs I have ever heard. Roads has ... read more
I seriously need to stop finding perfect albums.
But this might the most influential rock album of all time. Even though it sold poorly at first, The Velvet Underground & Nico inspired some of the most famous genres such as the late 70s punk movement and shoegaze. Brian Eno himself claimed that “Everyone Who Bought One of Those 30,000 Copies Started a Band” which is barely an exaggeration.
The music on this album is breathtaking. Every single song is incredibly written and ... read more
Feels more like a Thom Yorke solo project than a Radiohead album.
It still has great moments, though. They had some great ideas going into this, but in my opinion, it could have been executed better. For instance, some of the songs on here use the most lame and static drum machine you'll ever hear from Radiohead. But then some songs have the coolest and craziest beats ever.
On the more positive side, this album has some of my favorite Radiohead songs. I'm definitely talking about ... read more
First time listening to a Phish album.
I've actually known and enjoyed the song "Billy Breathes" for many years now, so I thought I'd play the album. It's not bad. I know people have mixed opinions when it comes to Phish, as they are a quirky jam band. But as for the album itself, I'm kind of surprised that it isn't rated higher.
The album starts off great, with the first three songs being my personal favorites. I also like the song "Cars Trucks ... read more
This album is incredibly hard to describe in words, so I will try my best.
Loveless is the second studio album by Irish rock band, My Bloody Valentine. The album features some of the most iconic (and slightly stereotypical) shoegaze moments of all time. Since I personally believe that this album is perfect, I'm going to individually explain what each track means to me.
Only Shallow - In just a few seconds, you're exposed to what the entire album is showing off - shoegaze. The ... read more
Our favorite impala debuted with an essential psychedelic rock album.
Looking through Tame Impala’s discography, this album is possibly his only true psychedelic rock album. Some may argue that Lonerism also captures this genre, but in my opinion that record features more pop-driven melodies and ideas. InnerSpeaker is a very raw sounding and noisy album, which is why many love it. I would like to enjoy this record more, but there are some moments that act as filler to my ears. Like wtf ... read more
The first album I ever purchased. It’s a classic.
There is so much good I could say about this album. Whether it be how well-produced it is, or how this album literally changed the music industry. Every song is so unique but still radio friendly (well, except Polly) and they all unite to form one of the best albums of the 1990s. An obvious banger.
