whenever i'm not feeling an album, i put on Scaring the Hoes and it suddenly starts sounding a whole lot more pleasant.
I discovered this song several years ago by complete accident, and boy am I glad to have. Beautiful, beautiful, thought-provoking beautiful stuff.
while everybody seems to be having a great time ragging on this, this is a pretty serious topic to talk about, and I seriously wish that this would've been handled with more care. because the core of this song, the subject matter we got here, it's something really grim, and that type of thing deserves to be taken seriously.
instead, kanye makes another garbage song that people can laugh at. and that genuinely really sucks. because this is an insanely personal topic to make a song ... read more
I don't care what anyone says, this album is so much better than KIDS SEE GHOSTS. I've already posted a review to that album for all my issues with it, so here I'll just focus on ye's strengths.
Where this album really strikes me is how fucking SURGICALLY the subject matter is handled. ye takes the topic it's based around, Kanye's mental state, splits it into every single one of its individual components, and then gives each component its own song. What you get is ... read more
This album is pretty damn great, but I don't think it's as flawless as people say it is, especially if you consider it to its twin album, ye.
Thematically, KIDS SEE GHOSTS is way less focused and more vague when it comes to its themes and topics. Unlike ye, which dissected its chosen themes with IMPECCABLE precision, this album doesn't really take saying something meaningful seriously until the last three tracks. Like, 4th Dimension is just about having sex, and Freeee is ... read more
This is the absolute peak of everything MGMT has been trying to achieve with any of their other projects. Psychidelia and synth-pop go together like, uhh... bread and butter? peanut butter and jelly? insert good pairing of stuff here. You get the idea. It's AMAZING!! MGMT has had a very good knack for writing some really incredible lyrics, that seem nonsensical on the surface, but if you really dig in, you'll find some real deep topics. And LDA is like the ultimate form of that. Some ... read more
A pretty good banger, with such a great flow from Kanye that you don't even notice the lyrics are complete fucking nonsense. This is also the 1 billionth time Kanye is complaining about how the media is trying to silence him, and all I can say is; seriously? He's been whining about this since, like, 2007. And the more of a nazi he becomes, the less sympathetic these lyrics make me. It's just annoying atp.
This is an album that has a really great start, and just slowly starts getting more and more tired as it goes on. No Church in the Wild is a perfect song, followed by some smashes like Lift Off, Otis, New Day, and That's My Bitch, which is then unfortunately followed by some stinky doodoo garbage like Who Gon Stop Me and Made in America. Personally, I was pretty dissapointed with My Good Buddies in Paris. I see why it's popular, but I really don't think it's that good.
I feel like this album was the transition between Kanye's old style and his more modern style. I guess you could argue that was Yeezus or even possibly 808s & Heartbreak, but those were more experimental shots in the dark to me. This was the album where he seriously started trading his classic styles for more modern rap. And, while I still definitely prefer his old style, this album is underniably glorious.
I think that Father Stretch My Hands, Pt. 1 is one of the most interesting ... read more
this was a fucking hilarious attempt from ye to stuff himself into the beef. in classic ye fashion, 90% of the song is him bragging about himself, and 10% is him trying to shoot shots at drake. unfortunately, it sounds very good.
This is the most fucking DIABOLICAL thing i've ever heard. easily the most devastating thing to come out of this, and one of the most evil diss tracks of all time.
Me too.
On a more serious note, I liked this. I relate heavily with the themes of dysphoria and loneliness here. They did hit pretty close to home for me.
Other reviewers have said that the breakbeats don't fit with the calm melodies, and that is true, but I can't help but feel like that might be the point. I mean, when you're trans, your body doesn't fit your gender, and this album hits that feel perfectly.
"Gender dysphoria sucks i want to throw up" hit a ... read more
A pretty mediocre start to Half Alive's amazing career. Mainly just sounds like a 21 Pilots ripoff. The Fall is a fine enough song, with some nice lyricism and a great personal topic, and a nice catchy chorus. Aawake At Night is the best song on here. The guitar riff and the swelling digital effects, as well as the crunchyness on the vocals make this a certified Half Alive classic. Tip Toes is complete garbage stomp clap slop garbage.
"Forgive me for all the taxes I didn't file." - AI Kanye
What makes me so sad about VULTURES 2 is the fact that almost every song (almost) has the capability to be a banger in a world where the people in the studio could hear. TIME MOVING SLOW's chords are really nice until the horrifying drums and fried vocals come in. FIELD TRIP is a fun song until Kodak Black opens his mouth, and FRIED has potential if it wasn't a lazy clone of carnival.
The production on this ... read more
As someone that gave Half Alive's debut track a perfect score for the alternative masterpiece it is, this was kind of a disappointing follow-up album. I liked most of the songs, sure, but I feel like the substance wasn't really there. Finally allowing themselves to sing about love, Half Alive overstuffs CoaP with 18 tracks, most of which are pretty generic pop songs about young love and stuff like that. Doesn't help that Josh's vocal performance is dry as hell.
All that ... read more
Now, Not Yet is a very unique mixture of Pop, Rock, and Gospel music, and regardless of which genre it chooses to pursue with each track, I will always be there to eat it up.
I find this album to be a pretty much perfect debut album. Half Alive has stated before that it purposefully avoided the topic of love in Now, Not Yet, and boy am I glad for that. Instead of using its indie sound to make sappy love songs, as most other artists with a similar sound palette would probably set out to do, ... read more
As someone who hasn't been waiting for this album for 8 years, and as someone who hasn't listened to a single A$AP Rocky album before, I like this a lot. It's a fun, energetic hip-hop album which is absolutely jam-packed with bangers.
I was actually pretty surprised that people hate STFU this much. For me, it was love at first sight. I appreciated the brash, noisy and aggressive beat, and it really reminded me of Yeezus, and album I like a lot. For me, it's a certified ... read more
