I feel like I would like this more had I not just heard that new Genesis Owusu album but this is still very quality.
The movie this soundtrack is apart of starts with Elvis cheating on the main love interest. Like, the first time we see him he's cheating and the conflict gets solved in about 1 and a half minutes. White guys could do anything back then it's insane.
The combination of grindcore and mathcore on this thing is absolutely incredible, it goes into a lot of weird places and I love it. Really think this deserves more attention, great stuff. Cool ass album cover too.
Donald Glover has a ton of incredible ideas but he refuses to check his ego long enough to realize when a project isn't thematically or lyrically consistent. The first half of this is generally great, but the second half is so disjointed and half-baked until the closing track. For an album that's so lauded, it's maybe the biggest example of musical wasted potential of the 2010s.
FAV TRACKS: Crawl, Worldstar, The Worst Guys, Sweatpants, 3005, Life: The Biggest Troll
feeble little horse continue to show themselves as one of the more interesting indie rock bands right now on "Bitknot". I do miss some of the noise rock elements but the greater emphasis on electronics allows for this to be distinct from its predecessor.
Metal Machine Music still holds up as some solid noise.
I'm kind of wondering if this album will be a true concept album, since drop dead is track 1 and about the early relationship changes and track 7 is the cure which is about the end. Either way, this is an outstanding song one of her best.
The first half is really good but there's too many moments on here in which Peggy sounds overly defensive and bored. Considering the album title, this is probably the least experimental he's ever sounded.
I listened to this back in 2024 and didn't really get it, so I'm pleasently surprised to say I loved this upon revisting. This is an excellent metalcore album and I'm glad i gave it another shot.
I understand to some extent why this project exists, as at its best it does show the communal power of Traditional Folk Music. However, it does not need to be an hour long. This is an album of covers by one artist that are played almost exactly as written, this should be more of an EP then a full album. I wouldn't really reccomend this unless you were a massive fan of both Seeger and Springsteen
FAV TRACKS: Old Dan Tucker, Jesse James
After having done a bunch of features for EsDeeKid, Rico Ace shows himself to be an exciting member of the current UK Hip-Hop scene in his own right on "Blackjack". Wish this had at least one or two Wraith9 beats though, I really wanted that producer tag.
FAV TRACKS: Dolce & Gabbana, Dope Boyz, Roald Dahl, Oh No, Malibu, Rich Get Richer
"ICEMAN" is the best Drake has sounded in years and it's still incredibly mediocre. The amount of people who hate him clearly weighs on his mind but it doesn't make him sound much hungrier, with the exception of "National Treasures". In the end it has some interesting beats, a couple good verses, and a whole lot of featureless mush.
FAV TRACKS: National Treasures, Parts of Other Songs
Genesis Owusu creates the most fun our political hellscape will give us all year.

"Train on the Island" is certainly well made, but not something that I connect too emotionally. I really don't see much special in Aldous Harding's songwriting on this album, at least not enough to warrant the mass praise this is getting from critics. It's ok, but nothing musically or lyrically stands out.
I'm kind of surprised that this is probably gonna be the lowest rated Drake album on AOTY. Not because it's particularly good, I'm giving it a 3/10 for a reason, but because it's honestly an improvement over what I heard of his last attempt at house music on "Honestly Nevermind". At the very least the production on these songs isn't so boring, particularly on "Road Trips" and the almost Mantronix sounding "Cheetah Print" which has a fairly ... read more
The most mature Modern Baseball release, and the one that makes me the saddest that this was it. Regardless, this was a good note to go out on.
The only traditional conscious hip-hop album in Kendricks catalog is somewhat of a victim to the genre. Kendrick kind of has J. Cole politics on some of the songs on here which is not a compliment. Still very good album though, if this is the weakest Kendrick has that's saying something.
This is far from the most original album in the world, and there's a part of me that just loves this because it sounds like The 1975 and The Japanese House. At the same time though, there's some really great songwriting on here that gets personal and at times political, and the choruses and production are excellent so if that's not enough I don't know what is.
