I still cannot get past the 4th track how is this a "life-changing" record?????????
It's okay, I'd listen to this once in a while if all their other albums weren't straight 10/10s.
This album offers a variety of bass heavy tracks with interesting and enjoyable production, defining Skrillex's talents once again.
It's just ok, I appreciate the ideas on the second half of the project but the features just don't seem like the right fit, and the execution of those ideas were half baked and unintriguing. The first half tries to achieve less than the second, and unsurprisingly, the songs are more enjoyable. Thank god "Quest for Fire" is miles better.
50->35 (8/3/22): The hooks are horrendous man what
He definitely draws a lot of structural ideas from Kendrick Lamar ( eg: skits at the end of each song from GKMC; soulful lofi production from Section.80 most notable on the song Lightsabers ) and although quite a few corny bars, still delivers a pretty good listen.
I do hope we get a no skit version because I am not adding a song with a 3 minute sketch at the end on any playlist
First Impressions: BIG VIBES. Very fun to listen to, even though it's pretty close to the line between cohesiveness and repetitiveness. Love how the album starts off super energetic and punchy and slows down towards the end, leaving you with a feeling of completeness. The only problems I find with the record is that the title track does not really match the rest of the album, and the Bad Bunny track just feels lazy.
EDIT 75->50: A huge portion of it really becomes forgettable.
Very fun to listen to, even with a few shortcomings and repetitive tracks here and there. Bump this during homework and it's going to be the most fun you're ever had doing your homework. Super positive vibes from this album.
A 45 minute long chill hop record definitely brings it's highs and lows throughout the album, while still containing his most accessible and flavorful "beets" to date.
this is difficult for both, the listener and the artist. I cannot fathom how difficult it must be to use an enormous amount of quantities in a genre that is already pretty abrasive. Although, the slower tracks on this album, just like Dariacore 1 are snoozy.
The more technically complex songs (eg: Bodysnatchers, 15 step, ) don't sit very well, even though the rest of the project slaps.
Edit 85->75: Although impressive, the magic of the tracks begins to fade rather quickly. This isn't something you would listen to often, at least that's what I'm experiencing.
Some of the well planned projects of hip hop. The themes of personal struggle and positivity, highlighted by the soul-inspired production is definitely a magical formula.
The Chronic and Selected Ambient Works 85-92 were released in the same year, I find that comedic for whatever reason. Let Me Ride has a beautiful hook.
What a wonderful follow-up / re-do to one of the greatest soundtracks ever.
