Just saw these guys live recently and it was nothing short of stunning. I also realized I hadn't rated this despite it being my favorite record of 2024 so I'm remedying that now. It's not often that an album comes around that just feels like a revelation, but I think this is one of those cases for me. The sonic textures and the way these sounds come together feels like heroin for my brain. It's euphoric, it's lush, it's complex, and it resonates emotionally in a ... read more
I love how almost every song is only tangentially related to the narrated story, and half of them have these sudden shifts from the actual story to "I'm worried my wife is going to leave me soon."
I would love to have a studio version of The Wall with all the extended bits that they did here, but were cut for time on the original album. Things like What Shall We Do Now, the extra verse in The Show Must Go On, the extended intro to In The Flesh, etc. I think especially being in the streaming age and with the recent rereleases of some of their albums, I think they should release the sort of director's cut. It wouldn't have to replace the original, but I REALLY want the studio ... read more
*STORYTIME*
I have this vivid memory of being about 6 years old, and I was at the store with my mom, and she gave me some cash and said I could pick out any album I wanted. I was having a big Beatles phase at the time and I picked this out, mostly because it had Come Together on it, which none of my other CDs had. It was cool to hear that song, but once it was over, I was even more struck by the deeper cuts. I was immediately enamored with Something. Maxwell's Silver Hammer became a fun ... read more
Accurate portrayal of rehearsing a presentation and playing it back hearing yourself
Could be recency bias, but right now this is my favorite album of theirs since Plastic Beach
I dunno, I like the production and I can appreciate it but I might have to build up to this one
Brian wilson going "I wanna cryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy" on You Still Believe In Me is one of the greatest eargasms known to man
I went in completely blind other than just hearing good things and thinking the cover art went hard. I don't think I've ever heard a death metal album that sounds like this. The elements of space rock and the use of synthesizers really feel like they shouldn't work, and maybe they don't for some more old school death metal purists, but to my ears, it works extremely well. Feels like if Chuck Schuldiner had joined Pink Floyd (though obviously the vocals are more traditional ... read more
Maybe it was just the mood I was in today, but I wasn't feeling this to the same degree as Low. Not meant as a dig at this album; it's still fantastic. I just personally prefer a lot of what this album is doing when it's being done on Low
Revisiting an old favorite. I was lowkey scared to return to this because this was sort of part of a phase I went through where I was obsessed with prog metal and I was definitely "that guy" about it, and a lot of the stuff I listened to around that time has really soured on me in a big way. But for the most part, this album still does it for me. The playing is virtuosic but not in a way that feels overly self-indulgent or that ends up just feeling like note soup. The emotion is there ... read more
This continues to be my personal favorite Bowie album. Such a dynamic and textured album, and you KNOW I like a primitive synth pop album. I think I might slightly prefer side B to side A but I really have no complaints
