Ok, when I first looked at this, I was looking forward for this team up, as Kaytranda & Animé got together for a project, my expectations on this were high. Unfortunately, it was a little flawed beyond the composition on the overall album, especially at the second half, but despite that, there’s still a lot of colour and playful verses and production that the two managed to deliver and the guest artists did well here too, but if they were to make a hip hop collab album for the ... read more
Ok, Lil Durk is a rapper that I’ve never really been into, even though he had started making music in 2010 and go on to blow up bigger than he ever was recently, and there are a few songs I didn’t mind from the guy, so now towards his eighth LP, and this time around, I’m left with nothing much to say. I didn’t like much of Durk’s autotuned deliveries, especially when it drags on for 21 tracks and nearly an hour long, including songs going from some with ... read more
At this point, Kesha needs no introduction, she was huge in the early 2010’s, then unfortunately went into issues with her label Kemosabe, and fighting against a monster named Dr. Luke in a legal battle for years, and how the public treated her like trash, and even after nearly 15 years, she felt trapped and insecure, and had these thoughts in her head, which led herself to create this album, and it is a dark listen throughout, especially with some psychedelic influences along with a more ... read more
To be honest, I didn’t expect much with this album. I didn’t like Lewis Capaldi as an artist to begin with, not to mention that he’s a lousy singer, and with this sophomore LP, once again with a long title, nothing much has changed. I will give this album a bit of credit, as the better songs here are stronger than the previous album, especially Forget Me, and it does sound like he was trying to branch out a bit, but other than that, it’s the same dull Adult Contemporary ... read more
So, since Bailey Zimmerman starting blowing up last year with a couple of big hits on his own, I was skeptical about a full-length LP whenever it would come out, but ok, most of the singles have grew on me over the past year, he did put out an EP to prove that he’s not just a Morgan Wallen wannabe, but as an artist in his own right, fusing Country with Rock, as well as some poppier elements, and he would finally make an LP this year, and by this, I do believe Zimmerman has a lot of ... read more
You know, after 2020, I ran out of interest to check out anything from the Jonas Brothers, as I never even cared about them in the first place, but they seem to have a new album titled “The Album” which already tells me early on, that this would be a totally uninspired album, except it turned out to annoy me through the 32 minute runtime. The production feels synthetic and cheap, topped off with poor mixing with the half-baked guitars, rubbery synths and fractured autotuned vocals, ... read more
I might have to be totally honest here, I’m a defender of Ed Sheeran, although I get that the music is very basic in Pop, and most music nerds and critics go on to pan Ed because of his “boring, basic music” but the basic elements of his sound gives him his own identity in music, it makes him recognisable, it’s his sound, if you take off the basic-ness, then you don’t have Ed Sheeran, and that’s my point with his take on that type of music, he’s capable ... read more
Nicholas Miller a.k.a. ILLENIUM has been one of the most prominent DJs in EDM in recent years, especially in 2019, when he started to become big in the genre with Ascends, which that album includes Takeaway & Good Things Fall Apart, but unlike other DJs, he also has some rock appeal with his music that makes him stand out, but unfortunately, like Kygo from 2020 onwards, Miller just seems to hit a brick wall in terms of quality and creativity, and that arguably started with 2021’s ... read more
Full disclosure, I never liked Labrinth. Based on the songs I’ve heard from him, I think he’s a very forgettable artist outside of one good collaboration with Diplo & Sia, so I have zero expectations for his third LP, which is this, and it’s no different from what he’s done before. The production from Labrinth himself feels very cheap and tinny, even outright overproduced, and it doesn’t get better with his vocals here either for me, as he often over-sings and ... read more
Ok, I first discovered Jessie Ware around last year, apparently she’s been in the music industry for a decade now, and I’ve heard that her last album, 2020’s What’s Your Pleasure? got so much positive reception, but I never got the time to check out that album or listen to her music, but that changes with her fifth LP That! Feels Good!, as I’m finally getting a chance to listen a full album from Ware, and this album really makes me wish I should’ve looked for ... read more
So, after the failure of 2021’s Better Mistakes, Bebe Rexha bounds to come back to relevance and is determined and desperate to do so (given that I’m Good is on here, why?), she would go on to make her third LP, which is this, and ok, seriously, who is this for? I remember back in 2017, when Bebe Rexha was rising up, I wanted to root for her after a couple of solid songs and she went downhill ever since, and although I don’t think this album is her worst when Expectations ... read more
Jack, Jack, Jack. After reaching massive Pop success with 2022’s Come Home The Kids Miss You, Harlow would unleash a surprise album, which is this, and my expectations were low going in, as I didn’t really like his last album, but it seems this is going to a more 90’s inspired sound and also samples to back up the production, and I can say this, it’s an improvement, but it hasn’t fully clicked with me, although I get why people like it. The production this time ... read more
Look, I barely had expectations with this album based on the singles, some of which I admit were really solid, along with pure mediocrity, but looking upon Tiësto’s 7th album, being this, and it’s a more commercial slap house album but unfortunately, the final product here is not that interesting to me. As the album tries to go for a more driving groove as the title applies, but it’s commonly flawed with the vocal mixing, choices of feature artists, some sounded fine, ... read more
Ok, Metallica is one of the most legendary bands in Thrash Metal, they’ve been around since the early 80’s and made of the best albums of this field, so 40 years later, the band releases their 11th album, which is this, and yes, it contains that classic Metallica sound but with modern touches, but for me, it doesn’t always translate to the quality. There’s a few highlights on here, including an 11-minute track of all tracks and still tied with decent production ... read more
At this point, I feel like Ellie Goulding has not lived up to expectations for me in recent years, and again, this is the same artist behind “Lights” & “Burn” which I think are some of the best hits of the 2010’s decade, and now, she put out a new album, seems to be going to a more dance-pop style, and I should like this more I did. The beginning of this album did show promise for me, but from there, at best, the album does have solid groove and she can sell an ... read more
Ok, so if you’re not familiar with the trio, boygenius is a indie rock supergroup consisting of Phoebe Bridgers, Lucy Dacus & Julien Baker, and years after they released their first EP, they would work together again, this time on a full-length record, ironically called “the record” and I’ll give them this. All three women managed to piece together an album that sound engaging throughout the 42 minute runtime, whenever it’s the storytelling and referring on ... read more
Look, I wanted to root for Chlöe. She’s one half of Chloe x Halle, she had a solo hit Have Mercy, and this album had countless delays and lost some of the hype she had with that one hit, and now, she’s finally releasing it, and all of her previous songs prior to Pray It Away would not make the album, not to mention the mediocre buzz this album has and wrong choices of singles, and unfortunately, the full thing is not that interesting either. It feels more like a label-ready ... read more
Ok, let’s start with a standard line of music criticism, Depeche Mode is one of the most important bands of Synthpop, they’re been around for over 40 years and is widely named as one of the greatest artists in history. Unfortunately, tragedy struck as Andy Fletcher passed away last year, leaving the band as a duo, and at the time, they’ve been already working on a new album for years, but now, in 2023, they are back to their new album, which would be this, as it goes on with ... read more
Look, before 2019, I was not that much of a fan of Lana Del Rey, I didn’t care about her, then Norman F***ing Rockwell changed that for me, as she managed to improve herself as an artist, and hasn’t quite gotten back to that level of quality for me since, and now in 2023, she would release this, her ninth studio album, and while I do think there’s some parts that are flawed or unnecessary, but she managed to piece together the narratives with messy but intentional metaphors ... read more
I… I have no words. This is a complete disaster across the board for me, I think this is easily the worst thing she has ever made, just 51 minutes of pure migraine and barely any sense of decency that leaves you with a very sour taste in your mouth. Please, do the right thing and avoid this garbage as well as her toxic fanbase, you’ve been warned
