so so cool that billy finally got jimmy and james back in the band and then decided to make an album with almost no real guitars or drums. this is easily the worst one so far. this album isn't good, BUT it does have some saving graces. unlike previous the last couple albums, the songs here are somewhat memorable (despite quality). it's super inconsistent and really only ranges from terrible to decently good, but the decent songs are much better than 99% of the previous era. it's really so inconsistent that its impossible to speak about in full so here's a track by track:

this record made me feel nothing. we're at the point where the band's sound is essentially unrecognizable from their past work and indistinguishable from generic radio rock. it works as a sequel to Oceania, but sounds more like b sides and demos from the that record's sessions than anything focused and innovative. the songs are quite bland and repetitive with little to say other than those generic "girl like you" type lines that any joe with a home studio could write. I dont hate this album, but I definitely wouldn't say I enjoy listening to it. It's better than I was expecting (and much better than what came immediately before and after), but it really doesn't have much to say. It starts off really strong with the first two songs but after that it's just a boring drag. I've listened to this at least 6 times now and can hardly remember anything past those tracks.
