Father John Misty - Mahashmashana
73

The title track makes me excessively cry I don't know how another song this year can be better than this masterpiece, I am in fucking awe. I was put here on this earth to listen to music like this, I am grateful to live in this timeline thankyou Joshua this is a blessing. Do yourself a favour and listen to it and this great album

EDIT: I didn’t change my score because of the Fantano review I hate it when people say that I just really don’t like the song Mental Health anymore.

Jean Grae - The Bootleg of the Bootleg EP
74

Jean displays hungry rapping where she’s certainly trying to prove her diversity on this EP. It’s a shame that a couple aspects of it haven’t aged tremendously well with a few particular slurs making their way on here. Some of the recycled beats from many respected Hip-Hop titles make an appearance which reluctantly to say work against Grae on The Bootleg because of their characteristically juxtaposed styles. You Don’t Want It takes eminem’s famous track and gets ... read more

Kendrick Lamar - GNX

MUSTARRRDDDDD!!!!!

I’m speechless this was such a blessing, Kendrick can seriously do no wrong it feels like. GNX definitely isn’t what we’re used to from Kendrick but what he’s crafted here is in every sense a west coast album. I really like the hardcore pompous lyrics and bouncing beats that litter this project nobody else could have done the job better. Hip-hop purists are probably going to have a hard time enjoying this one because it’s definitely a left field ... read more

Adamn Killa - Adhd Rant 1
100

I waited until the second it turned midnight over here in Australia to listen to this. Am I cooked? Regardless, the best ex-member of Year0001 just dropped song of the summer here. With this new track us fans get a clear insight on the creative genius behind Adamn’s brain with the random thoughts and emotions flying all around us in this rap. I learned more facts from this song than I have from any DG song HANDS DOWN, that should tell y’all who the better artist is.

Instrumentally ... read more

Denzel Curry - KING OF THE MISCHIEVOUS SOUTH
81

I really like the new songs but I think the original mixtape was a stronger release when I look at it as a listening experience and concise piece of work. Both versions are really great packages though and have plenty to offer. GOT ME GEEKED rubs me the wrong way a little bit because of the chorus and the rhymes but Denzel’s singing is still good which he continues to prove. KOTMS is still a phenomenal project and the lead single is a BANGER! Denzel only continues to have an amazing year!

青葉市子 [Ichiko Aoba] - Luciférine
90

Don’t understand a word of what you’re saying queen but it’s prolly super deep. Super lush single and is really extravagant in its format and instrumental structure. Loving this one a lot actually.

Aesop Rock - Float
85

The genius on this record is insane! Some of y’all ain’t really LISTENING though, don’t let Aesop’s fast raps and obscure topics deter you from a gem with some of the best poetry you will ever fucking hear. 6B Panorama literally depicts everything this man can see from his apartment with wordplay that blows my mind with its complexity but also his peculiar observation of the world that we see across the LP. Also at the end of the song when he talks about Galaxy Gas I ... read more

Major Lazer - Where's The Daddy?
30

Major Lazer and M.I.A's hearts were 100% in the right place when they made this song. I think its great that it finally got a release because its almost older than me and I'm a really big fan of Maya's old work. People are sure to like this song but I can't stand it even if I love and resonate with EVERY SINGLE LYRIC. The hook is catchy and a tolerable earworm but the beat is horrendous. New CIA torture technique unlocked with this one, sadly not the collaboration I was ... read more

El Cousteau - Words2LiveBy

Genuinely one of my favourite songs this year I can't stop bumping it. Earl in his unc era is turning out amazing music and funny tiktoks and I'm embracing it!

DJ Ess - el cousteau ft earl sweatshirt mixx

This is so buns just leave a good song alone bru 😭😭😭

ian - Goodbye Horses
25

The level 100 college whiteboy aura prince has made some progress since the last project. ian’s hook writing has improved a whole lot since Valedictorian, I’m a lot more drawn to the bars here since there is some evidence to back the wit up. Hate Me with Lil Boat is a banger idc if Yachty sells himself short it’s a really fun time. Some of the beats are complete doodoo though and ian still spits some bullshit most of the time. I’m gonna need to see a real effort from him ... read more

Illogic - Celestial Clockwork
90

This record is one of the best and most important music experiences I’ve had with the genre ever and I desperately want to share how excellent Celestial Clockwork is with all of y’all.

I listened to this project off of a ginormous whim, it all started because I really enjoyed Illogics verses from Aesop Rock projects and it had made me a fan enough to want to hear this work. The man really doesn’t have the kind of following he deserves nor the streaming numbers that people ... read more

Tyler, The Creator - CHROMAKOPIA

Sexy Redd on CHROMAKOPIA was not on my bingo cards 🤣🤣🤣

KSI - Thick of It / Low
20

It’s not nearly as bad as people are making it out to be. Like seriously this is not up there with Grippy and Soul Train on the podium of dogshit but yes Thick of It is still BAD. KSI isn’t a compelling bar writer but he can write a good hook or two when he wants to I absolutely believe that. The chorus itself isn’t that appalling I think it’s just mediocre but the worst qualities of the song are handed to both his and Trippie Redd’s verses.

I’m not going ... read more

EDIT: Grew off me a little but still got heat packing

Hermit and the Recluse - Orpheus vs. the Sirens
90

The moment I read the headline I walked out of my class. I sat down on one of the couches in the studying area and just pressed play on Orpheus vs. the Sirens from the beginning. I didn’t care about my coursework or the people around me I just wanted to acknowledge the life this man lived and the legacy he left behind, but most of all to pay my respect. I really fucking wish it didn’t have to be him, I have such a strong emotional connection to this album that this loss is really ... read more
