The captivating drama and tasteful arrangement makes the instrumental complexity feel simplistic. Its dense but easy on the ears. The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady is a masterclass in musical narrative with masterful musicianship to be heard in every moment. Jazz simply does not get much better then this.
If the only track after The Less I Know the Better was New Person, Same Old Mistakes, I would be giving this album a perfect score. Unfortunately, Currents features an extra five tracks that are listenable at best and well below average at worst.
It's not perfect, but it's never bad. The best moments bless you with musical perfection and the worst glide by quickly without any pain. Bossanova features an element of chaos in the production and vocals that adds and detracts from the experience. Some tracks provide harsh punk vibes, others feel like soft rock, and some fall somewhere between the two extremes.
