The Story So Far is, for sure, one of the biggest pop punk bands nowadays. Their first album, Under Soil And Dirt, was a breath of fresh air to the scene, which was already saturated with every other All Time Low copycats. The Story So Far mixed pop punk with hardcore elements creating a very agressive, angsty sound which felt like the opposite of what was happening in the scene . Average but not nearly as bad as everyone says it is. It surely isn't "Pinkerton" levels of greatness but at this point everyone knows that Weezer is soooo inconsistent and can't make 3 great albums in a row. Deftones definitely isn't your typical rock/metal band and with the release of "White Pony" they clearly stopped being associated with nu-metal. To me, Chino Moreno distinguishable voice is what really makes Deftones stand out from the rest of the alt-rock/metal bands from the late 90's and 00's.
