Coldplay - A Rush of Blood to the Head

This album took the sound potential of the previous and greatly improved upon it. Melodies were more captivating and fit together well. It did have a similar problem as the last where some songs faded into the background, but it did have many very good songs to accompany that. The good songs on this album were good, those being: Politik, God Put a Smile upon Your Face, The Scientist, Clocks, A Rush of Blood to the Head, and Amsterdam.

It wasn’t an awful debut album, as the long-lasting hit Yellow is featured on the album, but it left a lot to be desired. The album continuously felt like music that easily faded into the background and was hard to really get into. My favorites off the album were: Don’t Panic, Sparks, Yellow, and Trouble.

Rex Orange County - WHO CARES?

I feel as though this album sounds like the B-sides of Pony for the most part. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a decent album, and I enjoyed it more than Apricot Princess and Bcos U Will Never B Free, but it definitely is a little lackluster coming off of Pony. It has a pretty good opening but kinda starts to blend together after the fifth track in my opinion. My favorites were KEEP IT UP, AMAZING, ONE IN A MILLION, SHOOT ME DOWN, and WHO CARES?.

Rex Orange County - Pony

This album takes all the potential of Rex Orange County’s sound and puts it all into one album. It refined all the previous ideas that were presented in his previous albums. For a sound that I’m not particularly super into, this album was very good. My favorites are 10/10, Always, Face to Face, Never Had the Balls, Pluto Projector, It Gets Better, and It’s Not the Same Anymore.

Rex Orange County - Apricot Princess

Apple Music lists this album as being his “debut,” and although that’s not entirely true, it does feel more like a debut album than the previous. It has a much more complete sound that an album should have. I liked the same amount of songs as I did from the previous, but this album felt much more complete. My favorites were: Apricot Princess, Television / so Far so Good, 4 Seasons, and Never Enough.

Rex Orange County - bcos u will never b free

This album is a mixtape for a reason. Most songs feel like incomplete thoughts, and for that reason are rather unsatisfying. This was most likely intentional because a mixtape is the artists’ demo after all so it makes sense. There were some songs I felt were alright. Those being Corduroy Dreams, Portrait of Ned, Green Eyes, Pt. II, and A Song About Being Sad.

Dayglow - Harmony House

Although this album is wildly less popular than the former, it had a much more developed sound. I like that the songs are more recognizable, instead of them all sounding the same. However, I believe there is still work to be done with making songs more distinct from each other. My favorites were: Something, Medicine, Close to You, and Strangers.

Dayglow - Fuzzybrain

Most of the songs in this album sound the same. To be fair, I like the sound of the album, and it has a really fun sound that makes you want to dance. It was kind of hard to find which ones I liked more than others because they all sounded so similar, but my favorites were: Can I Call You Tonight?, Run The World!!!, Dear Friend, and Fuzzybrain.

Biffy Clyro - The Myth of the Happily Ever After

I’m not sure if this album is supposed to be the B-sides to the previous album given the artwork and the short release after the previous, but it is a solid follow up. It has a very similar sound to the last album, so much so it feels like a continuation, but that does not take away from the very good songs that are contained within the album. My favorites were: DumDum, A Hunger In Your Haunt, Denier, Separate Missions, Witch’s Cup, and Unknown Male 01.

Biffy Clyro - A Celebration of Endings

After what felt like a dry spell (although it really wasn’t) after Opposites, Biffy returns with an astounding album. The only reason it isn’t ranked higher is because it dies off a bit at the end for me, but still very much worth an eight. There were only three songs I didn’t like off this album, which just goes to show how consistently good it was. My favorites were: North of No South, The Champ, Weird Leisure, Tiny Indoor Fireworks, Worst Type of Best Possible, Space, End ... read more

This album is somewhat underwhelming after their previous albums were so amazing. It definitely has more of a hard rock sound in comparison to Opposites + Similarities. This album was relatively forgettable compared to the previous ones, but it’s very hard to come off two albums as amazing as the previous two and expect to make a better album. My favorites off of this album were: Rearrange, Herex, Flammable, On a Bang, and Don’t, Won’t, Can’t.

Biffy Clyro - Opposites

I guess I’m eating my words because I didn’t think it would get better after Only Revolutions, but it did—barely. With Opposites having twenty-three songs you would expect a lot of filler, but it felt as if there was almost none. Opposites was also paired with the best and the last B-side album, Similarities. My favorites of the songs were: Different People, Black Chandelier, Sounds Like Balloons, Biblical, The Fog, Little Hospitals, Stingin’ Belle, Modern Magic Formula, ... read more

Their best album yet, and what I suspect to be their best album released to this day. It feels as though they fell into a rhythm of making consistently good songs on this album, and they can get stuck in my head very easily. The ones I liked the most were The Captain, That Golden Rule, Bubbles, Mountains, Shock Shock, Many of Horror, Booooom, Blast & Ruin, Know Your Quarry, and Whorses. Many of Horror is their all-time most popular song, and it definitely shows, with their most beautiful ... read more

This is definitely a major step up from their previous albums, and their sound in this album is much more complete than their previous. Although not all the songs were great, the overall composition of the album is much better. My favorites were Living is a Problem Because Everything Dies, Who’s Got a Match?, A Whole Child Ago, Get Fucked Stud, 9/15ths, and Machines.

Biffy Clyro - Infinity Land

Another boring album from before Biffy Clyro was signed to a record label. Every song feels like a dissonant, irritating filler attempt at being experimental. I really struggled to even focus on which songs I liked and disliked because it was so un-captivating. I mildly enjoyed There’s No Such Man as Crasp and The Weapons Are Concealed.

This album somehow managed to be worse than the first. The songs I did enjoy, I enjoyed less than the ones I enjoyed on the other album. The album has a very annoying clashy sound, that gets abysmal to listen to after a couple of songs. The ones I thought were okay were: Questions and Answers, Toys Toys Toys Choke, Toys Toys Toys, and Now the Action Is on Fire.

Biffy Clyro - Blackened Sky

A very dry, boring album. Some of the very first songs are good, but after that, it really falls off. There were five that I thought were good. Those five were Joy. Discovery. Invention, 27, Justboy, and 57. I found that other than these ones, it was hard to pay attention to the songs, as they faded into background noise.

Del Water Gap - Del Water Gap
75

Del Water Gap’s debut album is a very solid first album. There is a good mix of sounds going on in the album, and a good amount of poppier and slow songs. My favorites were: Better Than I Know Myself, Perfume, Hurting Kind, Alone Together, Distance, I Hope You Understand, and Bug Bites.

Del Water Gap - Don't Get Dark

This EP is full of very slow songs. I thoroughly enjoyed Don’t Say Nothing, and Chastain was alright, but everything else became somewhat background noise while listening to it. It’s not a bad EP, but it wasn’t the most captivating listen, especially when compared to their debut album.

Taylor Swift - Red (Taylor's Version)
90

This is probably her most ambitious album, with over two hours of music (even though half of it had already been released). In my opinion, it is much better than the original version of Red, containing new favorites such as Nothing New, Babe, Run, and All Too Well (10 Minute Version). And because I had not previously listened to the deluxe version of Red, I also enjoyed The Moment I Knew, Come Back…Be Here, and Girl At Home. Especially after some relistening and owning the vinyl for this ... read more
