You wouldn't believe how happy I am that this album is actually good. I keep finding bands with a good first album and then their second albums end up being major letdowns. I think this is a worthy follow-up to their debut and I am excited to hear the rest of what this band has to offer!
I believe this album's biggest strength is something that the debut seemed to lack-- consistency. Every song maintains a similar energy and is about equally good. This is something of a double-edged sword. It ... read more
Repetitive, as in it feels a lot like the same song 10 times, but it's decent enough. I enjoy the sound and energy in this album but I wish it had more variety. There are some fun moments here though. I like the songs "Connection" and "What's Wrong (With Always Being Right)" quite a bit... the latter song is what made me listen to the rest of the album, and it's very clearly the highlight of the whole thing. It's so much better than the rest of the album it's kind of ... read more
Desolate and hauntingly beautiful. This album makes me think of being in a snowstorm, the kind where you can hardly see where you're going because the snow is coming down too fast. It feels hopeless but it also feels like an adventure, not the typical thing you'd think of when you hear "adventure", but like a treacherous journey back home, and you're not sure if you'll make it without freezing to death first.
This is one of those albums that doesn't just feel like a collection of ... read more
Pitchfork has had worse takes, let's be honest.
Anyways I found this album mostly boring but I can see the talent in it. I understand the critical acclaim. I think post-hardcore is just a major hit-or-miss genre for me. Another Morning Stoner is an incredible song though
I had pretty high expectations for this, seeing how much I like You'd Prefer an Astronaut. But this album blew my expectations out of the water. Everything here just... works. It's chaotic and calming at the same time. My one and only complaint is that I don't like some songs in the second half as much, but even then, they're still good and I might warm up to them more.
A bit disappointing but there's some fun stuff here. The One That Got Away is currently my favorite for sure. I also like Dark Enough to See the Stars. The Deep and Dreamless Sleep is a nice conclusion to the whole saga. The other songs are kinda boring in my opinion, but not terrible.
Loved Poor Innocent Boys, was confused by the low score on the full album, listened to it and now I understand. There's some pretty alright songs here and there but it's mostly boring. Feels like a watered-down version of what other bands in this style were doing.
The first album in the "you may also like" is Lil Wayne's Rebirth and that's probably a worse insult than anything the critics said
Brad's stream of this kinda soured my opinion of this, but it also got me to finally listen to it, so I can't be too mad. I'm honestly not too upset about the 9/11 conspiracy stuff. That was 15 years ago, and Bellamy has come out and denounced those beliefs and called them ignorant and such. I can't be too mad at the guy. He's improved.
Now that that's out of the way, what's my opinion of this album? It sounds nice, but it was a bit of a letdown for me after how much I enjoyed Origin of ... read more
Love Angels on Vacation, other than that it was mostly forgettable. But not awful
All I Think About Now is so much better than everything else on this album it's kind of ridiculous
Great rockin' indie pop, a very fun listen I highly recommend to those into this kind of music
Would love to take a long drive listening to this
I listened to this album because an old friend of mine dared me to. It wasn't good but at least I can say I've listened to it
EDIT: Have listened three times now technically. Thanks Bradley
I know "poppy tune with sad lyrics" is a common thing but they really take it to the extreme here and it works really well. Genuinely I'd be delighted to dance at the club to these songs, with lyrics such as "Why did I let it go? Why did I leave myself? No explanation as to why I'm here and not somewhere else" and "Oh, we've made a mistake, we've lost our minds, we've lost our memory"
Weezer really dropped the lyrics "Pump it up into me please daddy" and then made it the best song on the album. Damn
From the first song, I was hooked. This album is incredibly pleasing to the ear
Very fun album! Lures you into a false sense of security before slapping you in the face with the 8-minute tidal wave that is Only in Dreams. I mean that as a good thing btw I think Only in Dreams is their best song
Depressing as all hell? Yes. Amazing? Also yes. Stella was a diver and she was always down might be one of my favorite songs period
