you know you're a great artist when your second to worst album is THIS good.. this (mostly) lets go of the ballad sound of her first album tidal, and replaces it with incredible piano melodies over melancholic instrumentals and lyrics, OR fast and angry-like percussion to transmit the song's spiteful and anxious tones. just banger after banger with high replay value as the songs remain catchy and accessible yet explorative. amazing somophore effort that doesn't waste a minute not proving itself.
i really dislike azealia but she knows how to make a song and give her all to it. this album is so eclectic and jumps from style to style within minutes it's never boring though it's an hour long. azealia masters the hip house elegant genre and serving her characteristic aggressive and witty flows. just a really fun album, full of surprises and jawdroping moments. really worth a listen.
top 3: 212, chasing time, miss camaraderie
this is just so warm, comforting and it just feels like home idk. i absolutely love the atmosphere it creates, the folk cuts are magical and its noisier, indie-rock tracks (reminiscent of their early material) work incredibly well too. obv its very cohesive as well and in my case i really love adrianne's vocals. on its long runtime big thief offer a versatile project with a bunch of songs to remember and love.
this expands on the synth use and pop structures of be the cowboy, & it does so quite greatly. definitely her most sophisticated, and elegant release but the mitski feel is still there. some tracks don't do it for me (everyone..) and that keeps it from reaching her 10's output. but its an interesting change on direction for mitski
8 year old me heard blue jeans and thought it was the peak of tumblr girl music 🤨 not a bad album tho
