"There’s plenty of Dylan there but he’s far more whimsical, optimistic and naturalistic, even more so than Freewheeling Bob. Tall Man hasn’t got ounce of cynicism or sacrcasm, it’s borderline arrogant how carefree his attitude is which on its own is big enough to seperate him from Dylan. His first two albums are worth checking out if you haven’t already. "
"Yeah that's a point, can imagine all that happening stopped whatever they were doing or planning at the time. I hope they do further what was here in the future, especially if gets close to that basement version. "
"Definitely feels as though they were going for a drastic course correction like with Kid A, it makes me wonder had it been received differently, would it have affected their future releases instead of being an experimental album with a sound that was abandoned moving forward. "
"To be fair Soundtracks, To Be Kind and The Seer makes most of their discography look like works in progress, Children of God and Annihilator slap though. "
"I don't understand how someone could outright hate The Wall with the amount of great songs on it, even if you don't dig the dedication to the concept like me i can't imagine it being anywhere below top 5. As for Smith, i'm incredibly jealous of that first experience, can't wait to see what you think of him. "
"As much i'm tired of hearing it Ok Computer is still my favourite of theres and the one i come back to the most. I'm a little conflicted with The Wall, i respect the level of theatre that goes into it, but at the same time i think it's trying way too hard to be something impressive same with The Final Cut, but at least on The Wall the songs are great. But yeah I think anytime there's massive praise it can be off-putting, though I'm sure i'm guilty of doing it for Elliott Smith a few times. "
"The only musical people i see outright hating Radiohead are britpop (particularly Oasis) classic rock diehards, or people who are deeply into experimental music have developed this kind of elitist attitude for what they consider "entry level" experimental music like Pink Floyd and consider any form of accesability to be a con. I don't think people have to like em, but like The Beatles and Floyd they define their genre, there's gotta be at least some recognition ya know?"
"The constant praise is tiresome, and if someone were to say their favourite album was Ok Computer i would roll my eyes in the same way if someone said Wish You Were Here was their favourite, it's kind of a boring answer than doesn't warrant discussion. That being said i can't deny what they've achieved, they're far from the most experimental band or the most technically proficient, but they've managed to make experimental music accessible without concessions (apart from their first two albums)"
"Completely glossed over Where I End which shows how forgettable it is. I gotta disagree about them all being at best good not great, Wolf at The Door is definitely one of their best, maybe just because i'm sucker for the guitar arpeggio that is reminiscent of She's So Heavy but has some of Yorke's best lyrics plus the vocal style stands out from his usual moan and as far as openers go only Everything In It's Right Place and Burn the Witch really top 2+2. Gotta talk about that Rainbows 68 tho"
"Funny I thought the exact same thing thinking it was their “white album”. But yeah the skip tracks are really underwhelming, particularly We Suck Young Blood, Backdrifts, The Gloaming. I would say the they’re trying to bring anything back with the rock, I think they intended the album to be much angrier than the previous records and anger goes hand in hand with rock less so with the electronic sound. Saying that Myxomatosis is plenty angry and is built around an electronic sound."
"I’m all for politics in music, espeiclly in punk, and the lyrics arn’t the problem in this album for me. It’s the toothless “punk” sound, even if this was labelled a straight up rock album the music would still be bland, feel the same way about the Smith Street Band who Camp Cope are very similar too."
"Definitely their messiest release, used to be my least favourite from them but after years or sitting on it, it's worked it's way up their discography for me. Wolf at the Door is one of their best and 2+2=5 is the most energetic they've ever sounded, if they trimmed the fat like they said they should have, i have no doubt it would be right behind most peoples top 3. "
