Evan Call - Frieren: Beyond Journey's End Original Soundtrack
NR

Such a touching anime and an underrated soundtrack, allow me to trail off for a moment

In octoberish 2018 i was pretty young, but I had finally gotten enough money to buy myself a nintendo switch on my own, i was so excited, one of the first games i got for it was breath of the wild. That game is really special to me, the way it feels so small on the great plateau, and then it suddenly expands so much more than you could ever believe into this wonderful world, you really can pace yourself and ... read more

Lil Tecca - Ransom
90

I feel like ransoms kinda lost in the hiphop lore because its kinda after the end of the soundcloud era, but before quarantine, but Ransom is a classic for a reason, one of the most infectious hooks ever made

100

I do think this is perfect, im not mad in the slightest, but i do think its kinda odd this number 1 on the site? like idk i feel like i would expect shook ones pt ii, or like maybe whats going on, even ex-factor before this, but like god this songs amazing. i can't be annoyed

Marques Martin - fine then, I'm gone
76

One my underground guys, hes got some real charisma and slickness to his raps. He has a lot of cool influences really, like he even slide into a peggy cadence for the last 30 seconds or so
And then the beats got this nice obvious clairo sample

James Blake - Bad Cameo
55

I was going through my 2024 albums i reviewed and i realized i literally never revisited this. Woo was in my rotation for a while, but even that fell out. Its really unfortunate, but this was a weird combo and it sadly just does have that oomph that makes it stand out or be anyrhing remarkabke.
i still like woo quite a bjt though

Steve Lacy - Gemini Rights
75

please come back lacy:(

J. Cole - cLOUDs
75

Its definitely growing on me, but literally like id rather listen to like a song off like samurai by lupe for this type of rap

Estelle - American Boy
90

one of like 4 kanye features i can say is actually good

Xmarz - Late Night Hustlin
70

Kinda like some griselda ts, with quality beats, Xmarz rapping isnt special but just based off production it shines

Panic! at the Disco - A Fever You Can't Sweat Out
70

finally getting back in my punk bag, this album just kept suprising me cause every song started and i was like "ightl pretty unassuming and then randomly itd EXPLODE and i was just in aw everytime.
The back half especially is just loaded with killer instrumentals.
Brendan as a vocalist isnt exactly what i want, but he does his job serviceably in some effective way to fit that punk ethos

Kanye West - Runaway
100

its like actually depressing how accurate the themes of runaway and mbdtf ended up being to ye, and the meltdown this morning is just another example of that its frankly so depressing
and no im not gonna listen to bully

FKA twigs - EUSEXUA
70

goddamn it we are what like a month into the year and im already behind like 4 major albums helppp

Really really well made. Fka twigs comes with some of the most entrancing melodies ive heard to make honestly one of the best art pop projects ive heard that opening 3 song run is especially strong.
Perfecg stranger specificially reallly stood out to me, i like that melody, and her vocal styling and use of autotune was SOOO cool.
Just this whole album really brought emotion out i feel like but ... read more

Shaboozey - A Bar Song (Tipsy)
60

God THIS is the song we let tie old town road???
like its nkt bad or anything, but old town road was a flash in a pan, it was so special, nobody can replicate that, this is not that at all cmon man

Eminem - Stan
100

yknow in online communities eminem fans call themselves stans?
its funny cause if they were real fans theyd understand being a "stan" is a BAD thing

90

the p did he shit i cant decide if i despise or its a lil funny.
cause it like lowkey lil mabu coded "get it cause blue and yellow makes purple" but uh its a lot more clever than that

2Pac - Keep Ya Head Up
100

i always forget this one wasnt on MATW cause it would fit so well on there, and it clear i think this song blueprinted that album a little

Carly Rae Jepsen - Call Me Maybe
100

Oh my fucking god guys stop trying to be cool and let this be the highest rated song of all time already

50 Cent - Get Rich or Die Tryin'
70

ah grodt how do i put it.
i think if i averaged my rating of every song on here my score would be even higher, but its kinda suffers from sucess because like every song is a hit but like in the samd way, so an album its end up dragging a lot more than it should for how high quality every individual song is.
That track 2-8 run is generational also

Isaiah Rashad - The Sun's Tirade
85

ive been in my feels good bag a little recently between old mac miller, anderson paak, and isaiah rashad and mannnnn has this album been hitting this is my shittt
Its so breezy and jazzy and swingy and just AHHHH theres not an album from 2010s as easy as this to just vibe too and when youre happy

Denzel Curry - Melt My Eyez See Your Future
60

Denzel Curry is great, but hes just not the top tier rapper to me that others see him as. He admittedly has cohesive albums and hes pretty versatile, but his musics never been *that* to me.
Ok so um let me try to explain this. In terms of lyrical rap you have to do something that makes you compelling so people actually gaf about your lyrics, right?
Dmx or Eminem in their prime used hyperagression to make that happen.
Kendrick even tyler use like accents and varying vocal delivery for that.

"@B307 ithink i see what you mean, mix isnt something that you really affect my personal listening experience unless its genuinely trash like on jik but i can hear what youre saying on here. Yeah pennyroyals def high school shit, the songs less about the breakup itself and more about how joey struggles to process it because he doesnt really understand what she meant to him, again high school shit, but i think theirs a power to that youthful energy when it forced to be humbled, i guess i see it relatable in like a high schoolish way"

"@B307 ty! been meaning to check out liquid sqords, so yeah ill prolly review that soon! I generally think steez and joey always had a lot more emotional presence and their passion shined through in ways I dont see in some other boombap rappers. 1999 addresses from multiple directions of joeys mindset. I feel like you can really here joeys passion on hardknock, his denial of his heartbreak in pennyroyal is so relatable, his drive on survival tactics rivals people like nas. And i think thats griselda literally biggest problem, westside gunn is so immensly talented, but I feel like he always raps in the same exact way, I know who westside gunn is as a rapper, but I dont feel that inner motivation that makes him tick as a person."
