This actually one of my favorite Slums albums because it’s not too ridiculous with the production. Sometimes that abstract drumless sound is just way too special for me. This one however, had incredibly good production and writing all the way through. I just wish Mav could reach the highs here he did again.
This is so freakin sweet. Not only did this album manage to have some actually deep, provocative writing, but it also made me chuckle out loud numerous times. This album is super wonderfully weird, and it really brings out a mood I haven’t felt in a while. Once again, seriously. Can someone tell me what the fuck was going on in 1997??
It’s alright? I mean I will start with the positives. The combinations of more smooth ambient sounds along with the loud roaring guitars was cool, put a nice spin on the shoegaze sound. Now for the bad. These lyrics, omfg. They’re so depressive and “dark” that it’s almost cringey to listen to, like I’m getting second hand embarrassment. I just kept acting myself “why? why is this guy talking about this?”. I honestly think this album spent WAY too ... read more
Jesus… just Jesus. This album is literally everything. It’s life, death, horror, hope, love, expansion, all in one. Illinois is not a place I often think of as impressive, or interesting even in the slightest. This album, no this piece of art has changed that idea in my mind. The way Sufjan weaved these stories together, capturing emotion, movement, and history just moved my heart in a way I can’t even begin to process in this review. I mean I literally audibly said ... read more
now THAT’S what I’m talking about. Goddamn, I never understood how awesome a chill album is. This thing is relaxing to a cosmic level. Hearing A Flower Called Nowhere for the first time peeled every layer of reality away until I was just sittin’ there chill as a pill. Goodness dude. Vocals are great, and I just have to say, we need to normalize using wind instruments in modern music again. This shit is a goddamn vibe.
It definitely has a very warm, nostalgic atmosphere, and I can appreciate the craft and emotional depth to this thing. However it just wasn’t as exceptional as everyone else says it is. It feels a little cluttered at points and some of the songs struggle to find a super good mood or structure that really draws me in. Also idk why we decided to just start speaking French halfway through, quite interesting. All and all this is pretty good, just nowhere near masterpiece tier
Genuinely nerdiest shit ever but goddamn is it good. Jazz Fusion may be the greatest genre ever
Uh yeah this shit is stellar! Goddamn the attitude and soul here is immaculate. Shoutout my boy Adam Blackstone for these arrangements, peak as fuck. This is probably my album of the year as of now, can’t wait for the fall off to overtake it
Have to drop a review because I just saw these mfs irl. Holy sigma that was insane. I don’t really have much to say about the album rn, but what I want to talk about is the keyboard guy at this concert. He had 4 different fucking keyboards, each with a different midi, and to put it lightly, I just witnessed this man play a one handed synth solo with octave grace notes and all while simultaneously pumping alternating chords on two separate OTHER keyboards with his other hand WHILE ALSO ... read more
I’ve never spoken about it before, but I have thoughts on keem. The melodic blue was a solid start. A great foundation to build upon in the coming years. He had five. Five years to work on this. What came was 36 minutes of Keem attempting to be his cousin, and failing. I feel as though fans have put Keem in a position in which he feels like he needs to be like Kendrick. He doesn’t. He was fine where he was with the melodic blue. Sure it felt a little like nepotism, being the cousin ... read more
“Boy does this vocalist sound a lot like Sheena Ringo. Oh wait.” I did not know my goat Sheena was part of a band, but thank god I found out. This is some really awesome shit, with so much going on. This may be the greatest jazz rock album I’ve ever listened to. Each track was such a fucking vibe, and I genuinely did not want this thing to end.

EDIT: This shit gets the hundo, I can’t even deny, Sheena Ringo is so fucking cool
Long story short, this man was my middle school band teacher, and he’s a great dude. This album is genuinely incredible.
This was an incredibly well made and written mixtape, and I think most of it comes from the fact that Hamilton oozes with Charisma. What the bingle dood. He kept what was honestly a pretty normal story extremely interesting through every song. If I had to pick my favorites, I would definitely say the last two, but overall this shit is fuckin great
That was pretty awesome. I’m not super huge into the emo scene yet, but this one has inspired me to check out more in that area. The instrumentals were fucking awesome all across the board, and I do like the incorporation of samples in some areas, especially that choir in sputnik sweetheart, which btw was an incredible song. My one major issue however is that the main guy kinda wasn’t the greatest vocalist. There were points where bro was just screaming. And I don’t mind ... read more
THE TITLE DOESNT FUCKING LIE, IT DOESNT LIE. MY FEET DIDNT TOUCH THE GROUND ONCE, NOT ONE TIME. WHAT THE FUCK WAS GOING ON IN 1997????????
Oh my fucking goooooood. Welcome back TPAB. Holy shit this was incredible. It captures all the emotions and ideas that Beloved Paradise Jazz encapsulated so well and carried them even higher than before with a swagger I wasn’t entirely expecting. There is so much energy, so much hope, hope to keep pushing forwards and keep running. This album found me with a huge smile on my face the whole time, one of the most incredibly written and uplifting experiences I’ve had in a long time. ... read more
Surprise weird al yank (non first listen) review because me and my friend are seeing him in concert over the summer! Safe to say, this shit is as funny as ever and Amish Paradise is another absolutely perfect song
Are they essentially American BCNR? Yes. But does that stop them from making one hella good album? No, no it does not. This was AMAZING. The sax and violin, sorry for my choice of words, were so yummy. I think what really hits however in this album is its ability to create a lush soundscape. Unlike other chamber pop things I’ve listened too, like of course AFUP, this album was seemingly created with a more tenured softish style on every track except Holy Hell. Now is it better than AFUP? ... read more
