I cannot, I repeat, I CAN NOT glaze this album enough. Y'know I was like why not let me just do a track ranking and think about it for a little bit, but I just think this is electronic music PERFECTION and ended up giving all the tracks 100. This grew on me even more than when I last remember hearing it. Firstly I have to say that the first 5 track run is SO GOOD! Literal chef's kiss for the first 5 tracks oh my GOSH! Secondly, several of my all-time favorite Coldplay songs turn up on this record. Songs like The Scientist, Clocks, In My Place, and Amsterdam hit so hard. It's pretty aight. A couple songs I enjoyed, but everything else was just ok. Nothing bad so the score isn't gonna be that low, but a lot of these songs just lived in the shadows of the initial single. I did like On My Soul quite a bit and the two final tracks were pretty solid, but everything else I could take it or leave it.
Still consistently serving bangers alongside Joey's production which continues to be adventurous. Some of these synths are giving me some early Kanye vibes like with the latter half of "how does it feel to be young". That song may be short, but it allows for such a nice transition into "bustamove" that it helps make it a memorable moment regardless of how brief it is. Instrumental goes nuts, Thundercat's humming harmonies are so sweet on the ears, and hearing Mac go off rapping over this so nonchalantly is so surreal and incredible to hear. This almost in a way feels like Thundercat giving Mac the floor one final time and sending it out on such a happy and fun note. Absolutely gorgeous!
Heard this a while back, but it felt like a good excuse to re-listen when I'd heard that this album would be coming to streaming services for its 25th anniversary. Feels nice to listen to it on something other than a YouTube video. And how well does it hold up 25 years later exactly? I'm more active on that other music rating site, but I thought I'd share my music opinions with the community over here. Just a casual music listener who can appreciate a great album when I hear it. Rarely if ever go out of my way to listen to any bad / low rated music.
