This album gets better and better with every listen. I think of this in a similar lane as ASAP Rocky’s “Don’t Be Dumb.” When an artist goes years and years between albums, it leaves room for people to come up with their own expectations for what the album “should” sound like, and when it is different, of course people are disappointed.

I never knew that a mix of my favorite genres (shoegaze, dream pop, some post-rock) and my absolute lease favorite genres (black metal, screamo) would be this damn good. Aesthetically this is one of the best albums I’ve heard, but while the vocals did grow on me, it’s still probably my least favorite part of the album.
I understand what Kevin Parker was going for with the concept and sound of the album, but the music itself just doesn’t do it justice. Aside from a couple of standout tracks, the album as a whole just doesn’t do anything for me. It’s not bad, just bland.
I think it is literally impossible for Magdalena Bay to miss
