It is wild looking at the critic scores, the aggregate is a 72 but only 6/16 people gave it below a 73, only 7 below an 80

Just did my second full listen and wow, appreciate it even more! This really is a uniquely vibed album

Tbh the situation surrounding this album is a key example of why I hate mídia discussion these days. It's clearly visible that some people are thinking first (and sometimes solely) about their opinion on the product and use that as a basis to discuss stuff which does not depend on the art's quality.
For instance the whole "uuuh having cancer doesn't excuse bad writing" stance is so abhorrently ignorant and cynical. Like the writing here being "good" or "bad" (as if this could be actually measured objectively too lol) somehow mattered in the grand scheme of things.
Just stop trying to affirm your numerical score for everytime you talk about said artist, good God.

The country pop twang on this record is cool, but unfortunately the common failings of country pop all came along with it.

"Fantano stopped this from getting a must hear" no he didn't, the entire internet is united to hate that review so if anything he *helped* it boost its score. Scores always start out strong but lower with time, this isn't even exclusive to AOTY it's just a general trend in score aggregation

Fantano recently made a tweet about Halloween or some shit and of course all the comments are talking about Halsey, and his responses to some of the comments are just so disappointing, you can tell he hasn’t changed his mind a bit and stands by every point he made.

ive never held any dislike for fantano, nor am i a halsey fan, but i gave the review a watch and wow yeah that was bad. such a shallow surface-level look at the album, no actual attempt to engage with the subject matter at all. shockingly low effort considering what ive seen him put into a few other reviews. calling him misogynistic over it is dumb but he really put like, no thought into this. really affects my opinion of the guy tbh
