The 2015 tape may have felt more revolutionary as a shift no one saw coming, but musically, BEASTMODE 2 has the edge. And in its best moments, the unknowable rapper lays his cards on the table, vulnerable in a way he’s never been before.
With a balance of languid, relaxing ambience and Zaytoven’s jejune flair, BEASTMODE 2 is Future standing out by sticking to the script, delivering a bleak blender of messages worth revisiting – numerous times.
Creative risks are minimal on BEASTMODE 2 and time will ultimately tell (but it’s highly unlikely) if these records will oust any top-tier cuts in his bottomless catalog (“March Madness,” “Wicked,” “Mask Off,” etc.). But there’s more than enough heat to hold fans over until his next album.
Future’s a little like Pixar at this point. His classic run is generally seen as over, but he still puts out such consistent work it’s a pain to keep up with all of it. Still, Beastmode 2 is exciting because it rearranges the familiar elements of the Future schtick.
The Atlanta rapper’s latest reminds us why he’s a master of sing-rap blues even as that style begins to move beyond his massive influence.
to think these are just the throwaways? man. all you anthony fantano dickriders are missing out.
RATING: 75.6/100
The second Beast Mode entry is a mostly good lil mixtape.
It's mildly better than the first one, they're actually really similar.
Both of them are very short, both are a mixed bag of Zaytoven's mediocre and great beats.
Pluto sounds the same as always, so i think it was really on Zay to make this sound good.
He managed to make this better than the first one, i'l give him credit for that, however the tape's nothing out of the ordinary.

This is prob Futures most boring and nonessential project in his discog (arguably more so than "High Off Life" and "Pluto X Baby Pluto"). This somehow fails as both a follow up to his 2017 output AND the first Beastmode at once. Barely any of the songs had a bump, Future just feels like h's riffing the shit out of these tracks, and the production just felt so damn lifeless and boring. Like, I get that these were mostly just throwaway material for previous projects, but Jesus ... read more
