What would happen in you crashed classic club rhythms into classic rock? Pendulum pick up the pieces on their sophomore album, but American debut, In Silico.

The Guardian
The corralling finale, The Tempest, and the almost folky 9,000 Miles show that Pendulum have managed to imbue their medium with a rare emotion.

Drowned in Sound
To simplify the above into a sound bite via the words of a fellow office-based DiSser: "This is objectively awful".

Resident Advisor
Here’s hoping they ditch the silly rockstar aspirations and rebound with their original promise intact third time out.

The Skinny

Where 2005’s Hold Your Colour had an epic, almost conceptual, feel to it, In Silico feels flat and somewhat thrown together.

'In Silico' is a lot different than their debut album, but it packs just as much punch.

'Showdown' is a track I found while on one of my fondest family trips, and it made up a good chunk of my personal soundtrack of my life for that particular time. It remains one of my favorite Pendulum tracks - and it just simply isn't talked about nearly as much as it should be.

Look. Shut up. Let me explain myself.

I genuinely think this is their best album, and it helped save my life. This is a severely overlooked masterpiece which contains far more layers than it would initially seem, and I don't believe I would have perceived this without a very specific circumstance I will here outline. Compressing dense emotion into a formula and striving to draw out its fun can cause its nuances to sink beneath the cheese- since Hold your Colours is an undeniable magnum opus ... read more

Immersion is better and I’m not gonna try to act like it isn’t, but nevertheless, In Silico is a great album; sure, it has less personality than Immersion and not as much ambiance, but it’s understandable, they had just switched styles from their last album, growing pains are to be expected.

Best tracks: Propane Nightmares, The Tempest, Granite, The Other Side

Worst track: Midnight Runner

Maybe not groundbraking, but a very enjoyable album.

It has that specific feeling to it, making it an interesting listen.
