On DEVIANCY, Backxwash replaces the more varied instrumental "Black Sailor Moon", for a way more aggressive tone. A lot of this reminds me of LONEMOON or Jouvert by Brockhampton or *ahem* Death Grips. And while this doesn't lead to AS interesting of a listen as BSM it's certainly the best way to get into her. Her rapping here is ON POINT, never giving you a second to breathe, the lyrics are sharp and aggressive like it's actively compelling yo to start throwing bricks.

Really enjoyable debut. You can definitely tell her songwriting and production have improved a ton but there are definitely hints towards the highs she reaches later in her career. I definitely want to go through her discography because Only Dust Remains absolutely blew me away and she looks pretty consistent.
Just some dirty, catchy rapping from an angry trans woman with a lot of shit to say about her queer, black identity. Tracks like "DON'T COME TO THE WOODS" and "BAD JUJU" are relentlessly hard and gritty, but she slows it down on tracks like "YOU LIKE MY BODY THE WAY IT IS" to be even more introspective on her struggles, specifically body image and gender dysphoria.
