Sum 41’s heady CD is miles from rhyming about ”drinking in the back of an El Camino,” and it’s a big gamble for a band whose fans expect easily digestible three-minute blasts of pranks and parties.

AllMusic
Like Sum 41's previous efforts, it's a concise album ... with a basic understanding that fast and loud is what the band does best. But this time around, Sum 41 has made sure to set its message at the same high volume.

For what it is, it's not half bad. But that's about it.

Rolling Stone

With Chuck, Sum 41 have pulled off a truly impressive knucklehead stunt: They've managed to grow up a little and still have something to say.

A consistent album, every song on this album is, at worst, decent. The only issue is, outside of Pieces, nothing really stands out as a great song

Fantastic hard-hitting riffs paired with slow, melodic breaks. Just the right balance for people like me who are not usually into full-on metal. Easily their best album.
Best tracks: The bitter end, We're all to blame, 88
