Is it good? Well, if you're not into this stuff, this won't change your mind, but the band does work up some energy, sounds pretty muscular on most of the album, and has some good hooks, even if they tend to overplay their hand by throwing too many hooks into the riffs or screaming just a bit to much. Still, that's par for the course with alt-metal.

Rolling Stone
The band's roiling rhythms, barbed riffs and kick-drum-splitting beats take rap rock back to its roots in New York hardcore punk and D.C. Dischord bands like Fugazi. Dick replaces Zack de la Rocha's Commies-are-cool lyrics with words that walk a thin line between deep and dumb but always sound like a page from some pissed-off high school kid's journal.

Entertainment Weekly
Another band of screaming Mimis with a jones for rockin’ rap and lyrics that sound vaguely insurrectionary but do little more than massage the arguably antiestablishment prejudices of mall rats everywhere.

Papa Roach wanna rock us like they're a bad hair day away from going postal. But singer Coby Dick sounds more like a high school freshman hitting his locker 'cause he just got cut from the JV track squad.

-THE NU METAL CHALLENGE- PART 6/25

CUT MY LIFE INTO PIECES
THIS IS not that bad…???

Alright, look, after listening to 2 really shitty nu-metal albums, this kind of feels like a breath of fresh air. I’m not saying this album is good or decent, I mean look at the score I gave it, it's not really positive. But for 2000s nu-metal standards, this isn't that bad.

There are some things I like about this album, for example, the production. The guitars sound pretty damn good most of the ... read more

THE NU METAL CHALLENGE PART 6/25

We were this close to getting out of the red. THIS CLOSE.

Unfortunately, Papa Roach does not end our streak of shitty albums that we are forced to cover in this series. And the only reason this really fails to stick the landing is because of what I'm now calling the "Limp Bizkit" effect. Basically, this entails that a band has bangers for instrumentals and has the potential to make great songs, but the one thing stopping them is their lead singer ... read more

I swear I was spoiled by Iowa. This genre is an actual trash pile, a trash pile so vile that it has possessed me to write actual reviews on how terrible it is. Unless it’s Around The Fur or Iowa, I think Nu metal is the worst thing God created

... read more
