Machine isn't just furious but funky. In a Mr. Roboto gone berserk sorta way, that is.
On Machine, a mile-a-minute thrashfest, Static X frontman Wayne Static merely howls, growls, crashes, and burns on his band's second album.
Despite an assortment of brutal riffs and relentless grooves, Machine still sounds like a market research version of an industrial-tinged metal band — not a living, breathing group of musicians.
I'm such a slut for industrial nu metal, and Static X has always been one of those comfort bands for me, because they always served it up hot and ready. This album is a bit more aggressive than the debut, it's also a bit less fun. I prefer the more fun vibe of the debut, but overall this album is a mighty fine slab of dance beats, chuggy boneheaded riffs, and not much else. Wish that the lesser tracks weren’t here at all, as without them, this could be a 100 album; sadly, that’s not the case, what a shame.
Worse than Wisconsin Death Trip and Shadow Zone.
Best tracks: Machine, Cold, Structural Defect, This Is Not
Worst tracks: In a Bag, Black and White, Permanence
Dude this is music you fucking MURDER someone to holy shit.
I was so in love with " Wisconsin Death Trip " that I was worried to listen to this album, automatically assuming it wasn't gonna live up to the previous album, thankfully i was COMPLETELY wrong because somehow this album fucks even HARDER dude. A good album to put on if you want to annoy the hell out of your nuclear family. It goes hard, but is less memorable than Shadow Zone or Wisconsin Death Trip. It's the middle child. A lot of the songs are great, and the rest is really good but doesn't leave much of an impact.
Some crazy ass blow-up-in-your-face type of metal, would listen again
THREE STARS:
Get to the Gone
Permanence
This Is Not
Can get a bit repetitive every now and then, but is still pretty fun follow up to Wisconsin Death Trip
