AllMusic

Progress is the hippest and best music Take That has ever made.

80
The Guardian
The real surprise is that this unexpected step from comfy balladry to something more interesting sounds quite natural โ€“ the only element that doesn't fit is the free-floatingly doomy lyrics, which foretell unspecified personal and global calamities.
80
The Independent

Those who imagined Take That's reunion album would be a predictable blending of forces will be shocked to hear Progress.

80
Q Magazine

Rushes of blood to the head aside, Progress is a triumph; musically, conceptually, personally.

80
Evening Standard
In years to come, Take That's reunion will be seen as the most brilliantly executed in pop music.

NME
While those groups who were once on the other side of the โ€™90s indie vs pop divide are content to play their hits at festivals, itโ€™s Take That setting the pace. Progress? Embrace it.

Slant Magazine

It’s clear Progress is by far the smartest record that Barlow and company have put their name to.

70
The Sydney Morning Herald
British hit makers Take That are a better band this time around: weirder in tone, eclectic in taste, less concerned by convention and full of odd angles.

musicOMH

It might not be the explosion many were hoping for, but Progress sees Take That exploring and experimenting.

60
The Telegraph

Out go the ballads, in come sci-fi Europop techno stomps in Take That's 'Progress'.

60
The Irish Times
They could have come back for good with 10 cosy, familiar tunes, but instead they've decided to take that to another level.

Hot Press
As Eamon Dunphy might say: a good record. But not a great one.

Man the first 5 songs in this album are actually perfect. They are so different in their approach and style but create this beautiful mix of emotions through them. I first listened to the flood years ago and loved it and so it was a very nostalgic opening feel which drew me in, and from then on it still remained at that high entertainment level. The last 3 songs did drag off a bit for me and didn't feel as strong as the rest of the project but I still loved them and felt they were of great ... read more

Such an unexpected bop fest

I had this cd in my house when I was about 4 and remember listening to it lots because my parents liked it. They used to play it in the background a lot
The whole album has a slightly robotic and mechanical feel to it but not sure if that's just me. There are no bad songs imo. The last couple I wasn't a big fan of but I love this album and an average score of 68 is criminal.

Not a huge fan of Take That, but the band are British legends. I had so much fun listening to "SOS" - is it possible to release a band song with that title?
