Clash

One of his most rounded and adult statements to date, ‘Spaceman’ is certainly worth exploring - as lockdown hobbies go, it’s up there with banana bread as one of the most tasteful.

PopMatters

While reminding us that he has always been more sonically interesting on his own, Nick Jonas' attempts at deeper emotion and thought fall flat on his new solo LP, Spaceman.

To be honest, this album is more Pringles than caviar. But it’s comfortingly moreish. When it comes to the Jonas boys, it seems that once you pop, you can’t stop.

To cut through and leave a lasting impression of Nick Jonas, the artist, would require a vision much bolder than what this album has to offer.

The Line of Best Fit

There's no doubt that Spaceman offers guilt-free pop with a tinge of R&B. Unfortunately, this doesn't make up for the lack of depth and emotion which means, despite being Jonas’ strongest work yet, the album still runs the risk of being forgettable.

This album is overproduced to the point where it kinda loses its sense of identity. He is trying to sound super relevant and trendy with some of the generic trap beats and 808s in these songs, and there are a lot of times on here, especially in the hooks, where he sounds exactly like Chris Brown. Having not released any solo music in the last five year as well as a lot of his solo work not remaining in the public consciousness, Nick Jonas had a lot to prove on his newest release, mainly whether or mot her artistry is even relevant outside of Millennial and Gen Z nostalgia. However, while I think this project wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be, “Spaceman” doesn’t serve as a good argument for keeping Nick Jonas around.
