Welcome to Control System by Ab-Soul! If this is your first time listening to the album, then, if you're like me, you're probably not crazy about it. The song with Danny is kick ass, of course, but what's all the hoopla about? Seems kinda inconsistent.
If this is your second time listening to the album, then, if you're like me, you're probably picking up on some other nice things about the record. Like how immense the song with Kendrick feels, or how much of a swing Empathy has, or just how ... read more
People describe this is the 'conspiracy theory' album, and although there's lots of that, that label doesn't do the full album justice. Soul was in his top form in terms of writing, flows and beat selection on this project, something that he hasn't quite hit in the same way since CS. Where the album really shines for me is the energy, emotion and storytelling. Soul really did come across as a levitating wizard.
Man, peak TDE and Black Hippy was truly generational! The covers and remixes, the link-ups, the chemistry, the way they traded iconic lines like "won't pass the weed but I'll pass a bitch", "you can have all my shine, I'll give you the light" and "extra pills".

Amazing debut album. Really good lyricism from Soul here, along with some very nice flows. Production's great and the features are really well chosen. "Terrorist Threats", "Illuminate", and "Black Lip Bastard (Remix)" are my favorite tracks off of this project.

My introduction to Ab-Soul in terms of his album output. Despite being the smallest member out of the four members of Black Hippy, Soul does not cut any corners what so ever when it comes to his song writing abilities on Control System what so ever. This album in a way acts has an album based on paranoid sense if I can describe it in more simple terms. Soul varies in terms of the emotions he display's, On tracks like Track Two and Illuminate he shows of his more confident side in terms of ... read more
Scoring a solid 69/100 Ab-Soul’s Control System is a massive leap forward for the TDE lyricist. Showcasing a far more cohesive vision and significantly sharper production than his debut. To be fair, the album admittedly starts a bit slow, wading through a few mid-tempo tracks that don't quite capture your full attention right out of the gate. However, if you stick with his conspiracy-laden, deeply introspective journey the narrative completely shifts. Towards the end of the ... read more
