LCD mastermind James Murphy took a lot of flack from indie didacts for aligning with Nike last year, but it's worth asking, no less now than then: Who else would make this good on a payday premise that just as easily could have been phoned in?

45:33 deftly segues from the smooth funk favored by Levan to synth-pop and Talking Heads-style polyrhythms before opening into serious space-party territory. Forty-six minutes and five miles later, you’ll still be smiling.

Above all, it’s a truly remarkable piece of music that never once bores in its gargantuan duration. I mean, it’s almost enough to make me want to go running. But not quite.

The Skinny
Blending funk, soul and LCD, it's a great listen; the voiceless version of Someone Great a particular highlight.

Hot Press
A sleek melding of soul, disco, techno, Eno-esque ambient, gospel, and hi-NRG electro.

The Irish Times
It's the twinkling melodies and atmospheric, skyscraping pulses of the main track that really do the business here.

Uncut
Commissioned by Nike as an exercise mix for iPods, this euphoric, largely electronic set finds Murphy adapting DJ dynamics for the running machine. The checkerboard sleeve, meanwhile, hints at one key influence – the pulsing, layered synthetic Krautrock of Manuel Gottsching’s “E2-E4”.

The Guardian
Gospel disco is designed to ease you into the mood for a run; a hi-NRG section should inspire a full pelt sprint with Murphy muttering robotic encouragement through a voice box and it concludes with beatless Brian Eno-style atmospherics to stretch your calves out to.

Pitchfork
Nike enlists James Murphy to craft an entry into its iTunes-only "Original Run" series, and the DFA leader turns out a 45-minute disco track.

Coke Machine Glow
It is an expertly crafted and detailed work which accomplishes total immersion in the listener. Whether it makes me want to buy some Dunks is another question.

In addition to its novelty, 45:33:00 is a brilliantly arranged and compulsively listenable track spilling over with the burbling, kinetic energy and gleaming production flourishes typical of LCD Soundsystem's work.

‘45:33’ is loads of fun, a satisfying folly that’s as central to an appreciation of ‘Sound Of Silver’ as the lyric sheet.

So it’s a nine-track single or a mixtape or… oh, what the hell. It’s James Murphy. So it’s going to be good, whatever it is.

I don't always listen to awesome dance music while working out, but when I do it's by some fat guy who never jogs.

First 3-4 parts are absolutely stellar and some of my favorite pieces from LCD Soundsystem so far. After that, the album just kinda does whatever it wants and it looses me by the end. It isnt bad by any means, hell, I’d say more than half this thing was absolute fire! Especially considering this was pretty much commissioned from Nike to make a 45 min DJ mix of new(ish) material, I think it’s pretty fucking cool. And hey, shit does indeed fucking bump, so it def gets the job done. ... read more

I think the first part is quite slow to get going, and once it does it still doesn't blow me away but past that it gets incredibly consistent. I also really like how Nike commissioned this for James Murphy + that cover art looks really cool..

Surprised by this! Doesn’t ever feel boring or like it’s dragging, which is impressive. Makes for great background music, but not so sure I’d return to it very often. I like the ambience near the end.
