A.V. Club

It’s the self-possession of lyrics like these, and Solange’s newfound love for sincere, catchy hooks, that make True the best work of her young career and one of most irresistible pop records of 2012.

83
Entertainment Weekly
The strong ’80s nostalgia here could wear thin for some, but Solange’s singular charms stretch far.
80
NME

It showcases Solange’s experimentation at its best, but is only a prelude to a full album in 2013.

80
SPIN

True wraps the mid-MTV Era’s biggest hits in gauze, rendering them dimly recognizable underneath Beyoncé’s sister’s steady voice.

80
NOW Magazine
A strikingly unique take on soul music in a year when there’s a lot of competition from other R&B artists pushing the genre’s boundaries.
80
The Arts Desk

The younger Ms Knowles proves to be as much of a pop powerhouse as big sis.

79
Paste

In the past, Solange dabbled with genres and moods like finger-paints; with True, she’s made some bold, inventive brushstrokes.

78
Pitchfork

True ... delivers on the fresh promise of "Losing You" and marks the sound of a singer hitting a graceful stride, in her own time and on her own terms.

70
AllMusic
This is a promising prelude to Solange's third proper album.
60
Consequence of Sound

Solange delivers an EP stocked with promising parts slightly dashed by a burgeoning identity crisis.

60
Slant Magazine
If the atmosphere of effort is the dividing line, True may be Solange’s most defining statement to date.
60
The Sydney Morning Herald
It's assumed she is saving the best for later but these songs offer deceptive depth.
55
Spectrum Culture
She has shaken off a few shadows, come into her own with the maturity of her mid-20s, and chucked all the largesse of radio R&B.

I came across AOTY exactly 1 year ago today. This was the very first album I rated. At first, I though AOTY would be a nice place to rate the music i used to listen to, and to sort of catalog all the albums I had listen until then. What I didn’t expect was that this would completely change my experience with music and the impact it now has in various layers of my life. This website pushed me into leaving my listening habits comfort zone and made me explore artists and releases I ... read more

Blood orange on production? You know its gonna be good!

Beyonce's younger sister, solange knowles is back with a stellar EP! It's Banger after banger on this EP! The highlight of the EP of course is the mind-blowing Losing You, the production on that song is great! Along with the great production Solange provides amazing vocals. Solange has that perfect voice that really embodies that Neo-soul and Alt R&B sound! With lots of highlights this EP is really good!

Mega underrated!!! Loving you is one of the best produced tracks of the early 2010s and the project as a whole is super consistent!
