Fortunately, the music on The Warning is aces. Utilizing a kitchen-sink-by-Casio approach to instrumentation, without cluttering individual tracks, Hot Chip pull from absolutely everywhere.
With The Warning, the band again forces listeners to drop the safety of labeling and comparisons with other bands.
'The Warning' is perhaps the best album of the year so far, and in 2004 few would have predicted such an occurrence, even those with sympathy for Hot Chip.
With The Warning, they've willed themselves beyond bathos by sincerely embracing their English art-pop sensibilities.
Here, the quintet beefs up the rhythms and tones down the indie-geek shtick.
The Warning shows us a Hot Chip both familiar and unexpectedly progressive. If you like your dance music intelligent but still accessible, with soulful harmonies and cheeky lyrics that surprise you with moments of deep feeling, this record comes highly recommended.
