For better or worse, Spears is, as she says on the title track, "a put-on-a-show type of girl," and when she sticks to that credo, Circus works.
Britney may have left the psych ward, but on Circus, she proves she's still a freak. The clubby, adventurous pop on her sixth album ... would have made a fine follow-up to 2003's In the Zone.
Circus isn't bad as pop albums go, but whether by default or design, it's substantially less edgy and exciting than its predecessor.
Wildly if transitorily enjoyable at turns, vacuous and ignorable at others, Circus doesn’t quite feel like a comeback, but I’m sure Brit’s not above merely bringing pre-comeback.
Moments of pop bliss occur more often than not on Circus, and as the public has been more than willing to do over the past year, it only makes sense to forgive Britney for trying to regress into teen-pop mode.
If she feels marginally more connected here than she did on Blackout, it's a Pyrrhic victory, as Circus never feels as sleek or addictive as its predecessor.
Obviously all is still not perfect in Britney’s world, but Circus still does more than enough to remind us of why she’s one of the world’s most iconic pop stars.
Circus is almost as charmless, but at least it succeeds better than its predecessor in their intention of portraying the former Mouseketeer as some kind of robotic nymphomaniac doll.
By involving herself in her music again, she’s managing to fuck it up as well. Circus is a saddening step back to her glossy yet unengaging In the Zone era, which is a shame.
you know what, this is PEAK britney. the creativity, the FUCKING serve in the album cover, the singles being iconic as hell, and the powerful blend of all the best elements from her past albums makes this incredibly good. although i believe the first half is a lot better than the second half, i love this album so much. the whole aesthetic is incredible, i love how she incorporated rnb elements and electropop elements at the same time.

This isn't a bad album at all. Overall as an album it's just good or serviceable. It starts off pretty good with the first 4-6 tracks, then it just goes downhill. Not in a bad way, but more it just becomes uninteresting and boring around the middle section of the album. It does end on a high note with Radar. But overall as an album, I can't give it any higher than a 7/10. It's still a good album
Highlights: Womanizer (fav), Circus (best), I U Seek Amy, and Radar
See? I wasn't joking about Ooh Ooh Baby and Womanizer, they are basically the same song?!!! Other than that shocking revelation finally clicking with my own eyes, I am quite surprised that people were not huge on this album but loved Blackout. This album starts off with two absolute bangers and they slowly starts slipping away, almost like watching a house of cards start to crumble away in front of your own two eyes. This album doesn't seem equip to handle the 46 minute runtime and would ... read more
The first half of the album is on the same level of "Blackout" in terms of insane hits, however it slowly falls off to a more decent territory in it's last half, despite this it is a great dance pop record and I especially love the title track.
