NME
Urgent, funny and fearless, the LA artist's debut album sees her imbue her rage with wit and fierce ambition.
100
Dork
Stunning in its history, all-engulfing in its glorious hooks and ripping turns. ‘Blondshell’ is the alternative arrival that 2023 has been waiting for.
90
The Line of Best Fit
It is the sound of an artist finally getting to let loose and say the things that have stayed locked up inside for too long. In turn, Teitelbaum offers an exciting introduction to a talented songwriter and a thoroughly rewarding debut.
90
Clash
Confronting trauma, seeking healing, and promoting self-worth with her sharp lyricism, Sabrina has created a bold body of work, exciting and unfiltered, as she navigates the highs and lows of her life up to this point.
84
Spectrum Culture
Dark, grungy, droll, and cathartic, Blondshell’s eponymous debut album rocks out while being unflinchingly (and sometimes uncomfortably) honest.
80
AllMusic

Along the way, despite some familiar musical touchpoints, she establishes a personality that's all her own.

80
Under the Radar
It’s a testament to her songwriting skills and sensitivity that she can take potentially difficult subject matter and still make it feel both relatable and uplifting, and it’s certainly an album that serves as a reminder that there is light even in the darkest of places.
80
Exclaim!
Taken as a whole, this is the kind of record that will infect your life, to paraphrase "Sepsis," one of the record's standouts.
80
The Guardian
Sabrina Teitelbaum writes her rage in various vivid shades, resulting in a coming of age album with PJ Harvey and Hole influences.
80
Mojo
Now 25 and treading Nirvana/Hole-influenced terrain better suited to the bleed and luster of these uncensored songs of self-empowerment, she has found her perfect skin.
80
Gigwise
New York’s Blondshell, otherwise known as Sabrina Teitelbaum, has a sound that invokes that trendy 90’s alt-rock inspired sound while still imbuing enough of her own personality into the music that it doesn't come across as a cliché.
80
XS Noize
The debut eponymous album from Blondshell offers a compelling journey through nine tracks of self-discovery and reflection sprinkled with humour and memorable lyricism to provide one of the most promising debuts of 2023.
70
Pitchfork
Sabrina Teitelbaum’s self-titled debut is a candid snapshot of early adulthood, a cruel rotation of bad substances, scummy men, and friendship anxieties.
70
DIY
It’s in the intense moments where her talents lie.
70
Northern Transmissions

While the entirety of Blondshell is a treat to listen to from front to back, it’s the realization of what’s to come that may be the most exciting thing.

60
Loud and Quiet
It’s a shame, and a frequent problem in guitar music right now, that such potent lyrical observations are paired with music that’s so beholden to the past.

More like Awesome-shell. Yeah, that’s right.

For real, this is one of the most consistent records I’ve heard so far this year. Every song on here is at least some degree of great. And it’s a debut??? Crazy talk.

Blondshell is an indie-pop and alt-rock outfit fronted by Sabrina Teitelbaum, and it feels as sarcastic and dramatic as it does personal and organic. There’s a great mix of acoustically driven cuts on here like the closer, “Dangerous”, feeling like ... read more

What did you go paint a turtle blonde or something?

This is a pretty good indie rock album. In the grand scheme of things, not extremely memorable to me but it has good production and performances. I will say Joiner is a standout song for how great the melody is and for how grand it feels. Otherwise, it’s pleasant. Worth a try if you like indie rock at all.

Veronica Mars - 6.5
Kiss City - 7.5
Olympus - 7
Salad - 7.5
Sepsis - 7
Sober Together - 7
Joiner - 8.5
Tarmac - 7.5
Dangerous - 6.5

Nevermind the weird decision of releasing more than half of your album as singles, Blondshell's debut screams potential. This is one great alt-rock cut after the other, if you liked the recent boygenius album, I couldn't recommend this one enough.

Blondshell aka Sabrina Teitelbaum is the revelation of the year, a singer-songwriter who is actually a part of a hard rock band, and not a pretender the throne like so many others of her time making music that matters. Produced by Yves Rothmann, the album is a supreme work of art. It begins deceivingly, as opener “Veronica Mars” is 1990’s themed hard rock at its punchiest and “Kiss City” is a grower that does build into an interesting crescendo. With these two ... read more
