He establishes himself as the anti-Drake, which is the first song’s manifesto (“Drake Era”). The production keeps everything interesting, meaning the percussive tricks become the ‘music’ and the beats are what matters- best examples are “Digital Blackface” and the hilarious “Black Ben Carson”. JPEG’s defiant attitude keeps things interesting. The album as a whole slows down at parts to it’s detriment (“Boi”, ... read more
Scaring em! Scaring everybody and blasting them with noise. Seemingly taking some lessons from Death Grips, this new album from Jpeg and Danny B has them trading off lines back n forth and they make a formidable team. Title track “Scaring the Hoes” paints the thoughtless dregs of society as said ‘hoes’, people that don’t like dangerous challenging music or the ones who stay safe and don’t dare to be weird enough. Definitely has its moments of fun, quirky genius- "Coats" and "One Stop" come to mind. But a lot of this has qualities of style over substance, too many songs full of "sounds" that are interesting but not truly engaging as pieces of music ( "Train on the Island", "If the Lady Does It", "What Am I Gonna Do" ) I know this has been a long critique of Harding, but i found her last two albums far more entertaining. At times, I really want ... read more
