AllMusic

Melodic and heartfelt, Austin surprises at nearly every turn, whether that's by an unexpected sonic detour or the simple fact that Post Malone has never sounded this fearless.

80
NME
Though his notable genre-defying skills are still here in ‘Austin’, Posty’s clearly veering off in new creative directions, which is a bold choice to make considering his formula thus far has pushed him to global acclaim.
80
Hot Press
It's a fantastic shake-up to hear more vocally challenging tracks from Post Malone – long may it last.
70
American Songwriter

While his 17 new songs don’t amount to a flawless masterpiece, they do paint a picture of a Post Malone who not only knows he needs to turn things around, but also intends to at any cost.

70
Clash
Whatever the future holds, this is an album that dares to buck trends, and at its best can be genuinely moving.
60
The Observer
The US singer and rapper’s most personal album is stunningly affecting at first, but soon starts to pall.
55
Pitchfork
With a focus on guitar-centric pop-rock, Posty’s latest record is a passion project that feels overstuffed and undercooked.
40
Slant Magazine
Even with a fresh coat of paint, Post Malone’s writing is still overly serious.
40
The Independent
Malone’s wordplay does bring some originality to the old story of the sorrowful celeb.
40
Spectrum Culture
This album's lack of a broad appeal doesn’t only stem from shedding Malone's hip-hop skin, it comes from a severe deficiency of excitement.
30
The Needle Drop

Austin's lyrical highpoints are diminished by gross production choices.

One of the nicest guys in the music industry is back with another full-length LP! His last project was very underwhelming, but I was hoping for this to be better (although Waiting For Never from the deluxe was incredible, I was hoping for that kind of vibe here). Either way, I want the best for Posty, he seems like such a genuine soul with a great sharp voice.

I was always a fan of his more "Rock" inspired songs rather than the Trap inspired songs (Rockstar and Saint Tropez go hard ... read more

Posty just bought a new Lamborghini but he is feeling moody :(

In fact this is actually my first full album from Post Malone, I have heard some of his work in the past, And even though I liked a few of his songs I didn't really care for him too much. Coming into this album, I just wanted one thing, Not to be bored. And well, I can't say I was jumping out of my seat to be honest.

I'm sure that Posty is a nice person in real life, And I've got nothing against him, I just think he is a pretty ... read more

Incredibly underrated album, truly his only without any “hits”. His most personal album. “Austin” is essentially exactly what I always wanted from Post Malone. Allowing himself to lean fully into slower pop tracks, where he shined the brightest in his previous albums.

Best songs: Green Thumb, Texas Tea, Don’t Understand, Hold My Breath
