MEGAMAN: THE MUSICAL (1/3)

Yeah, you read the title. Basically, The Protomen is a band formed in 2003, and they make Rock Operas based on the Mega Man franchise. Right now they have three concept albums, being their own interpretation of the Mega Man lore (in a darker and more epic way). Yes, it sounds a lil bit dumb, but the execution is great. The concept intrigued me, and I decided to listen to these three 'Acts' and see what can we get.

To most people, this is prolly gonna seem like a dumb album.

An experimental rock opera about the Megaman games- Not the sleek and cool Megaman X series or the story-rich Battle Network games, nah the OG series about a pudgy little blue dude runnin' around shooting tennis balls.

It's geeky. It's overwrought. It's edgy. It's melodramatic. You need the liner notes to make sense of the story. I dunno anything about mixing but it's probably mixed terribly. The last song is literally just them ... read more

Even though for some the subject matter can be extremely "nerdy", the music displayed here, even though it's attached to the hip with the Mega Man games, is really unique and on it's own. It's a fantastic nerd-rock album that is surprisingly noisy, loud, abrasive, genre bending and all the more important: Fun as hell.
