Love the distortion and the EP also feels like The Beatles in their psychedelic era
TAME IMPALA REVIEW: 1/7
RATING: 8.5/10 (8.51)
The debut self-titled EP from Kevin Parker’s Perth-based project is one that is almost frustratingly good. Despite the rickety, cheap production values, the viscerally explorative, virtuosic heavy-psych jamminess is undeniably infectious. And while style-wise it is derivative and largely unreplicated through the rest of his discography, it is a necessary foundation that allowed the brilliance that followed it to exist.

Genuinely a really good EP, this was better than I expected considering how early on it was in Kevin's career but ig he was just locked in from the start. I really like the rough production on this I think it gives the album a really cool charm that none of the later albums really have, I think I even might prefer this version of Desire Be Desire Go but im not really sure. It is obvious that he is still finding his sound on this album but its definitely a very strong start. Also idk why ... read more
Very different from his later albums. It really reminds me of 60's bands like Blue Cheer and Cream. His vocals on this EP are also very Lennon-esque.
He sounds more into his element, but the songs on here just aren’t on the same level of quality that Lonerism and Currents have. Even without comparing them to his other projects, the songs range from ok to great, Might just be me tho, but I thought this was a lot worse than other people thought. Not that I think this is bad, far from it, I love tracks 1 & 3, just find all the other tracks ok and unmemorable.
Fav: Half Full Glass Of Wine
Worst: Slide Through My Fingers
1. Desire Be Desire Go - 7/10 - seems very rough around the edges

4. 41 Mosquitoes Flying In Formation - 8/10 - i’m grooving to this
5. Slide Through My Fingers - 9/10 - it’s a nice track
6. Wander - 8/10 - it’s fine

Tame Impala brings vintage psychedelic rock into the 21st century.
Fully written, performed and produced by Australia's Kevin Parker (other than a couple musical appearances from fellow Australian band Pond's Jay Watson), Tame Impala is not so much a band, but a one man project for Kevin Parker to showcase a unique sonic world made solely by him.
Desire Be Desire Go is an adrenalized opener, ripe with an air of immediacy and an instantly memorable fuzz guitar riff. The other tracks, ... read more
Early Tame Impala still hadn’t fully discovered his true style, and in this 2008 EP you can clearly hear that something was still missing. It feels like a transitional project, where the foundations are there but the artistic destination would only be fully reached a few years later.
this is when he STARTED being the tame impala we know and love, miles better then sundown syndrome
First footsteps
HAH, YOU THOUGHT I FORGOT ABOUT THIS ONE!
Finally finishing my journey of reviewing every Tame Impala album on this app abandoned by the gods, I will take a quick look at this little EP. It's fine, I really like "Half Full Glass Of Wine" and the tracks after it are also enjoyable. The mixes on the first two tracks are way to muddy and messy on the other hand, I am so glad Kevin fixed "Desire Be Desire Go" on 'Innerspeaker'.
It’s interesting to see where tame impala started. This ep is pretty similar to tame impala’s first 2 albums, except it’s not quite as polished. This is a strong start to Kevin Parker’s catalog, and it really showed his potential.
Mercy where mercy is due, Tame Impala is a fantastic artist and basically every artist’s early work is either not representative of where they ended up and/or not up to snuff with their later stuff.
That being said, this album does make Tame Impala sound like an alt garage band with 300 monthly listeners and a first-name basis with every local venue manager in his zipcode. For some people that's a winning aesthetic, it just doesn't really enrapture me.
