It's fascinating to hear the genesis of the same Tame Impala that is now, 17 years later, producing house-tinged disco-pop. Kevin had developed an admirable proficiency at songwriting, and no one can deny the impressive execution of the 60s psych-rock sound. This collection of songs stay in their one lane and don't deviate too much from the goal of paying homage to an era, the result being inoffensive yet slightly disengaging as the cacophony of saturated instrumentation bleeds from ... read more
I feel like this EP has many of the same issues I have with many Tame Impala songs. I feel that the songs are just a bit too long, and they do not engage me enough. I don’t think this is always the case, as Currents is one of my favourites of all time, it just some of the other albums and projects fail to capture me in the same way. It is unfortunate. However, overall this project is solid. I like how rough it is, as it demonstrates Kevin in his earlier stages of his sound. I think ... read more
Solid foundation.
Favorite Song: Desire Be Desire Go
Least Favorite Song: 41 Mosquitoes Flying in Formation
Drums are as crisp as they are on his later stuff but the sound is an overall downgrade.
Wonderful psych. Kevin’s raw voice goes together well with the fuzzy guitars and drums. And oh my god that one fucking synth is my favorite in the entire world. The one they use on Skeleton Tiger. The chorus’ chord progression on Skeleton Tiger sounds wild, sad that he scrapped the song after Self Titled: just imagine how it would sound on Innerspeaker with the glow-up Desire Be Desire Go had. Every song here is very solid, with DBDG being just a little weaker than the ... read more
This album leans more into indie garage rock compared to the dreamier, more polished sound Tame Impala developed on their later records. It has a really strong vintage 60s feel, but it’s still clear that it wasn’t made in that era. The guitars are super fuzzy, and you can definitely pick up on the phaser and flanger effects, which really help bring out that retro psychedelic vibe. The drum beats had a breakbeat driven energy that gives the whole thing a bit of an album the modern ... read more
Fucking terrible. The mixing is awful and the production is garbage. Kevin sounds like a fucking fly
Domesticated Subaru
After the remix record, Kevin Parker decided to release his first real EP. Its quite good. You can hear his signature style start to shape through these. You can also hear some heavy Beatles influence especially in their later years. The guitars especially sound great on this. Not much else to say other than this was a good time and I would recommend yall hear it to appreciate where this guy came from.
Did you know Tame Impala is actually just one guy?
Favorite song: Half Full Glass Of Wine
worst song: Forty One Mosquitoes Flying In Formation
this is a pretty solid debut project imo! i'm interested to see how tame impala's sound progresses through their releases... although this a great project, kevin's most recent records have more of a distinct and unique sound to them rather than just trying to replicate the sound of psychedelic rock from the 60s and 70s. excited to get caught up!
a produção é desleixada, mas no fim é isso que faz dele interessante!! apenas o kevin poderia
*talvez o maior erro da carreira do kevin foi nao ter colocado skeleton tiger no innerspeaker
