Like good satire, Jacques Brel's songs cue you to laugh then startle you with reality. Walker puts you in the uncomfortable position of wondering whether to laugh in the first place, or to just lean back and allow these characters a glory that eludes them in their own lives.

Although Walker's second album was his biggest commercial success, actually reaching number one in Britain, it was not his greatest artistic triumph.

Scott 2 effectively revives all of the vitality and grace of the first album, but the listening experience is less exciting because it is all so familiar, and thus making all of its tricks and turns utterly predictable. But even still, Scott 2 is an enchanting and impressive sequel to its predecessor.

This album just improves from his last album a ton with every track adding some new dark story or incredibly gorgeous music. Jackie especially is one of the best songs he's ever done being so incredibly dense and fast in the instrumental and having such an explosive sound like man that song blows me away every time I hear it. Also that chorus is so catchy for an orchestral baroque pop song. Just a really great listen all around

1001 albums you must hear before you die #130

I'm feeling burnt out writing little reviews for every album so I hope y'all don't mind me only writing reviews for albums I have something to say about.

One of the more underappreciated gems by Scott Walker, Scott 2 has their lovely Baroque Pop sound which works well with his quite theatrical vocal performance alongside with elements of Chanson makes for melodic and poetic listen with a lot of sentimental and humorous moments.

Romanticism begins where reality ends. It is the space where we keep loving what could be, even after experience has shown us the limits of those dreams.

Scott Walker sings with an incredible sense of command and presence, making even the quietest moments feel dramatic and important.
The record continues his blend of lush baroque pop and theatrical melancholy, but it feels slightly different from the first Scott album. There is something older and more traditional about the atmosphere here. ... read more
