I imagine my feeling towards Coldplay are shared by many others. I frequently found myself getting lost in their first 4 albums, in particular 'Parachutes'. Don't get me wrong, I don't consider Chris Martin to be a great singer, nor in fact do I consider him to be the most calculated songwriter. But what those earlier Coldplay albums possessed was a gripping sense of melancholia, which felt REAL. At their best they were both powerful and enticing.
