Super innovative and a massive staple for goth music, and a FANTASTIC album in general!! Every single song on here is iconic and cryptic and I adore it all. Despite being the lowest rated btw, my fav has always been Small Talk Stinks. It’s one of my fav Bauhaus/Peter Murphy songs to this day. :) Overall this is such a beautiful album, please listen when you have the time🖤
I love this!!! By far my fav Damned album, but I don’t think that’s purely due to my goth bias lmao. It’s gothic-rock but with a few creative liberties, and good ones at that. It’s a lot jumpier and more new-wave hewn than most gothic-rock and it’s super fun. Although I love their other punk-rock style of music, I think I love the direction The Damned went with Phantasmagoria even better! :) Favs are definitely Shadow Of Love, Edward The Bear, and Grimly ... read more
Super fun! Reminds me a lot of Substance by Joy Division. :) However, I think a few songs were way too short. I barely had any time to get into them before they were over. I still had fun with the album though, my favs were Neat Neat Neat and So Messed Up.🖤
Pretty enjoyable, but definitely not the most memorable of Peter Murphy discography. Most songs are kinda bland but there was definitely a few standouts like The Sweetest Drop and Dream Gone By, sadly though those songs don’t entirely save the rest of the album for me. :/ (It’s ok Peter I still love you)🖤
Probably one of, if not their best!! :) Such an intense album, with mixes and elements of some of my fav genres. It’s super consistent as well, there’s hardly any fall off at any point, pretty much every song is good. The Death And Resurrection Show is such a great start too, it really sets the theme + it’s one of the best songs on the album. Love it🖤
Was expecting to give another 100, but this is still pretty great for what it is. They definitely shaped a lot of the new-wave genre though and I can completely respect that. :) The middle had a bit of a fall-off for me but the the first and last third of the album were amazing, I love how slappy it is in a way haha. Overall not too insanely special, but still an amazing listen I’d fs recommend🖤
Possibly the easiest 100 I’ve ever given. WOW this was amazing. The singers voice is so soothing and the phycedelic guitars on the instrumentals are perfect. I quite literally feel like i am ascending to Heaven (or Las Vegas) and omfg I love it. PERFECT album :)🖤
Pretty good debut, but it definitely feels inexperienced. It was still a few years before The Cure mastered their style, but this is perfectly fine for what it is. It shares a few jangle elements which I like and the bass work was great. :) I definitely don’t dislike it as much as some others do tho, I don’t dislike it at all even. Although this is far from their peak, there’s so much charm within the album and I’ve relistened to it a few times now, it’s super ... read more
Although I love this album, I still prefer Closer. Joy Division is one of the founding fathers of post-punk, they defined its ominous and cryptic style and to this day have still done it best. The only reason I prefer Closer is that it tuned this style up to 11, where Unknown Pleasures is definitely a little safer. That isn’t to degrade Unknown Pleasures at all though. This is a staple album in the goth subculture and it is more than deserving of that spot. :)🖤
Beautifully melancholic goth masterpiece. Dramatic vocals and instantly identifiable instrumentals, SOM is simply a band like no other🖤
Thought I’d really like this one, but it was ok. :/ Uninspired lyrics and tasteless songs, overall it was just wayyy too bland. I liked the first few songs but then it was all kinda downhill. Sadly this was a bit of a bad first impression of Franz Ferdinand for me but I’ll still check out their other works eventually. Fav was Audacious tho, that one was pretty decent.
Idk. It’s nothing special, but there’s also not much wrong with it. One thing I will say though is that Twilight Zone is a total catfish. No other song on the album even slightly compares to how good Twilight Zone is. They’re not bad songs though, which is where I’m conflicted. I think the point could definitely be made though that this album is a little boring due to these things, so I feel this rating fits. Not good, not bad, just boring.
Pretty good! Every song has a different feel, so it’s a little bit for everyone. Most songs on the album have a super unique and almost claustrophobic vibe, and I mean that in the best way possible. Even with that though, I think where this artist shines the best (at least on this album) was High Ground and Dopamine. I love their production and melodies, as well as their more fast-paced vibe contrasting to the rest of the album. Also, this is probably unintentional, but there’s a ... read more
100th REVIEW!!🗣️🗣️🗣️🎉🎉🎉Thought I’d do a classic. A beautiful, innovative, and genre defining classic. All good stuff
Unknown Pleasures cooler younger brother haha. This album is super creepy and mysterious, as per usual Joy Division. That feeling is such a hard feeling to master for the genre, it’s the thin line between just random noises and literal art, but this album captures it perfectly🖤
Romance was definitely a step up from it, but it was such a little step. Skinty Fia is still a beautiful album. :) The ominous vibe is hard to dislike and this album, along with Fontaines D.C.s solid discography shows that they might be one of the best indie bands of the modern day! Favs are Jackie Down The Line, Skinty Fia, and In Ár gCroíthe Go Deo🖤
