I got to see Ms. Humberstone perform about two months ago and she was stellar. It was a minimalist set (consisting of just her and her keyboardist stripping back songs for an hour and a bit) of indie pop brilliance. I got to hear a few tracks from this album before it released, and since they were great, unsurprisingly the rest of the tracks are pretty great too. It's quite a front-heavy album though, as the second half definitely peters out a little. Nonetheless, I'm very lucky to ... read more

Against all odds, it was actually possible to do a folk pop album in the 2010s which wasn't stomp clap.

On my last listen of this, I accidentally had Thong Song queued, so after the majestic opener I was blessed by a cacophony of noise by a man who loves nothing but big booties and thongs to death. Honestly, it made for a heavenly opening for the album, would heavily recommend doing the same.
Some of the songs are genuinely up to Plastic Beach standards, which is remarkable. Some of them are middling, which is to be expected for the later Gorillaz catalogue, especially since Cracker Island was ... read more
