The singles held some promise in reviving the Winehouse, Adele, and Sade pop-soul niche that's been left untapped for a little while in the mainstream, however whilst achieving that goal to a degree, a few songs are over-polished, and a couple of awkward lines end up dampening the maturity behind the writing. Sometimes I like to think that I'm doing relatively okay, and then Scott Street slams a sledgehammer straight in my brain. A really gorgeous album, and it's no surprise that Bridgers has most likely become the most quintessential indie/folk artist of the last decade.

Far superior to 3D Country, and far superior to Heavy Metal as an overall piece. I think Heavy Metal has more special glimmers in terms of singular songs, but as an album this is by far the best overall Winter project. A knockout from the underground's self-proclaimed 'froggy' darling.

It takes a few listens to make the deeper cuts feel substantial, but the overtly best stuff is so overtly good that it could carry the deep cuts even if they were awful. And the deeper cuts aren't awful, they're maybe just a little poppy, clean or gimmicky at times.
