I FUCKING LOVE THE TITLE TRACK AND BIG MAN LITTLE DIGNITY the rest are pretty fucking good but also kinda overrated
ngl i gave this a bit more points than my avg songs scoring (would have been a 73) because i think this album is so beautiful in certain parts. its ruined by the bad songs, though, and i wish it wasn't beacuse otherwise it would be such a vibe listening to front to back. songs like consideration, woo, and love on the brain are reasons why this album is held to such a high regard in terms of r&b in the early streaming eras.
"and i've bored myself to tears" me too girl me too (the white girls are gonna hate me for this one but here goes my reasoning...) i think it's amazing that people of today's music age are trying to make sad indie folk music that resonates with people. i think this album does really well lyrically, as it can definitely be super emotional throughout. however, i think when you take into consideration that there are mutliple songs on here that sound the exact same for 4 to even 7 minutes ... read more
you can definitely tell the drop in quality between this and melophobia cause wow does this have some sleepers. i will admit though, cry baby and trouble are some bangers. also, i don't necessarliy think this is bad, i just think that they tried something and it turned out a bit annoying and boring, but i can see the appeal to it.
wow i have not heard this in a minute. i think the reason why i was so hooked on it at one point was because of the fact that i was a small child addicted to grunge and alternative wanna be sounds, but this was actually one of the bands that did it well, especially in songs such as black widow and cigarette daydreams. it's also, at some points, really noisy, which i am surprised at how popular it got due to that. i could not see, nowadays, an album with songs like teeth getting so mainstream, ... read more
if holy terrain wasnt mid asl and daybed just a lil bit more interesting, this would be an 100 cuz holy FUCK those songs are so beautiful. i have always been in love with this album, and i feel so bad for the hate that she got over things that she was incapable of controlling such as her relationships and the bad exposure she got from memes.
i remember this album had a chokehold on me at the start of quarantine, and it would be on repeat while i cried in bed lmao. now i think it’s probably one of the most boring and ehhh albums i was into at the time, but im grateful for what it did for me
god this is what i liked as a kid? (defending amsterdam with my FUCKING LIFE tho)
you definitely can tell there was MASSIVE improvement in both production and effort of both members, and, though not the best thing ever, has some honestly AMAZING tracks.
i think the biggest issue this has is it tries to be different while also remaining pop friendly. that makes some actual pop rock bangers come out of it such as hometown and tear in my heart which i will defend with my life as they are rly well produced and good road trip songs. but then the issue comes in when it comes to songs like doubt and polarize, which…honestly are just outright terrible. you can tell they were trying to make a different emo alt sound than they have in the past ... read more
