yup, first album of the year that wow'd me. if the 2nd part is also amazing, will change the score to 90+
update: grew on me a little
how do you guys stan this?...
grimes is one of my favorite artists ever. she shaped my life in many ways, but this is... mediocre at best.
more detailed review later
the kind of after album you listen to and feel like you're going to die in a few days somehow in the best way
ummm am i the only tame impala stan who isn't enjoying this very much? i love them so much and i went to see them live before. but by their standards, it is a pretty mediocre album....
is this the same person who made tropical paradise?
is this the same person who said ellie goulding's albums are boring??
this album is the epitome of boring... all of the songs are uninspired and some of them sound like sophomore album's rejected tracks. lyrics, theme, production are very boring. the debut album was a fun electropop album and second album had good use of tropical elements and i just cant bring myself to listen to this snooze fest for the second time
this is a beautifully produced space r&b album. the artists from g.o.o.d have been consistently good, except for kanye himself.
i’m starting to get tired of the trap element in songs but this one has a fresh take. there’s some tribal elements in the album which i really like, to contradict the ambient-y / space-y sounds.
fav tracks: guilty conscience, the pines, undermoon, flight319
i’m sorry but this is so boring.
i am a huge fan “cardinal“ and i know not everyone likes evan’s voice. but i found it incredibly catchy and i liked the the way they wrote the lyrics. skylight was just a bunch of songs we’ve heard before. “intrepid” was amazing tho
this album however.... sounds like a band jamming in their basement. the lyrics and production are not interesting. the title song “‘marigold” is a highlight of the album ... read more
i guess this is an album that you either HATE or absolutely love. i was never a fan of poppy’s music until choke EP, i was skeptical at first when she started to infuse metal into her music. yes it’s gimmicky. but lemme tell you this, she’s unapologetically edgy and i respect artists like this.
also i thought all the songs would have the same structure which could be kinda boring. but she gave us varieties that gel well together. there are bits are straight up pop that ... read more
this is actually what i expected it to be, calming singing + minimal electronic beats
thom yorke's previous solo albums were not good. but i've been obsessed with him lately especially after suspiria soundtrack (one of the best score ever??) so i very much enjoyed this album although the middle part of the album isn't as good as the rest
fav tracks:
dawn chorus, twist, runwayaway
more people should make ambient pop albums
like kelly lee owens music, it's atmospheric and poppy at the same time. this is a good discovery
favs: i'm tied, to you, in the garden, phone call
yo this is very good and more people should listen to it
i've been listening to thom yorke lately (especially the suspiria album) so sounding like him is a bonus for me. it's kinda spooky and calming. healing has everything i love in a song. if only the second half could be as good as the first half.
favs: healing, in the blank space, once apart
a boring indie pop girl album
it's not bad by any means but it's so overdone and it's zzzz
i can't bring myself to listen to it :/
i love phoebe bridgers especially her voice but it works better with soft folk songs. i don't find it pleasing in this folk rock ish album. i've listened to it a couple times but i couldn't pay much attention so i can barely remember any song.
took me awhile to like it
for some reason, i really like the way they pronounce words in the songs lol, especially in the second song. some songs are v good, some are just meh but it/s still thoroughly enjoyable
favs:
i/m not here [missing face], VTr, shooting dennis hopper shooting
it's just okay
deerhunter had some really really great albums. some of the them being my all time faves. while this album isn't a complete let down, it's nothing special.
favs:
what happened to people, death in midsummer, element
a beautiful transition from her previous work
i listened to her on this podcast called song exploder breaking down seventeen the song and it just spoke to me! she said the song was influenced by nick cave, portishead etc, i heard it. the synth work here is amazing. sharon van ette has made some pretty good albums in the past but this is a high point for her.
favs: seventeen, no one's easy to love, stay
this album doesn't age very well...
at first, i thought it was much better than the colour in anything (i still find it hard to finish this album) but after a few months, i just don't feel for this album anymore. the rosalía collab was a disappointment, it was the song i most looked forward to. but still, there are some good moments to appreciate.
favs:
tell them, assume form, i'll come too
it's not perfect but it's good enough. cool your heart is such an experimental tropical jam!
