Smino - Luv 4 Rent
79

Had never listened to any Smino project before, matter of fact, the only songs I had heard before were only some of his features such as Claymore with Isaiah Rashad or Sacrifices by Dreamville.

Gave this project 4 listens and I have to say that it's pretty good. Alternative R&B and melodic trap aren't my go to music genres but this album is really enjoyable. I found myself liking most of the songs on this project. Love the production on almost every song and Smino's vocals. He's definetly ... read more

A$AP Rocky - LIVE.LOVE.A$AP
85

One of the best mixtapes i've ever heard. Production is still amazing (Clams Casino is one of the most underappeciated producers I know) and A$ap Rocky delivers quite impressive performances through most of the tracks. This project really established A$ap as one of the best hip-hop artists of the last decade. He really started this cloud/ psychedelic rap wave and everyone doing it nowadays.

There are few weak hooks here and there but overall, this mixtape is very consistent. Full of great ... read more

Souza - Get Rah
67

Defintely very smooth! Love that Kaytranada instrumental and the flows but I would have liked that the vocals would be a little louder so the instrumental doesn't carry the raps. Can't wait for the EP!

Westside Gunn - 10
88

At this point, Westside Gunn is one of the most consistent artists right now. He's been dropping multiple albums every single year since 2015 and most of them if not every single one has been great. It's not just the quantity but the quality.

Probably one of the most packed features of all hip-hop albums of all time. The whole features and producer list is just amazing. I'm only missing Madlib and Boldy James tbh. Of course Gunn gets outshined by some features but, who wouldn't get outshined ... read more

Ka - The Night's Gambit
87

I said it before, but Ka is one of the most unique artist in the whole hip-hop genre. He’s the best at doing what he does.

The Night’s Gambit is one of his best albums, but the thing is that Ka doesn’t have no bad album so every album of his could be considered his best.

As always, in this album we listen to an introspective, vulnerable and teaching Ka. Full of bars over beautiful and dark instrumentals

Favorite songs: Jungle, Nothing Is, Soap Box, Knighthood, 30 Pieces of ... read more

Lil Wayne - Tha Carter IV
68

Lil Wayne's Tha Carter IV is obviously not the best installment of the series but still a decent one. Tha Carter III will always be the unanimous best record of Tha Carter series.

This album has great songs, but is very inconsistent, especially in the second half of the project. Going from songs as amazing as President Carter to So Special or How To Love is just awful.

Favorite songs: 6 Foot 7 Foot, John, She Will, Intro, Interlude, Outro, President Carter.

Danny Brown - uknowhatimsayin¿
83

uknowwhatimsayin¿ is a very concise and cohesive project. I think that you really can hear the Q-tip influence sonically in this album since this is executive produced by him.

Personally, I prefer Atrocity Exhibition over this album, but uknowhatimsayin¿ is still a great listen. Not as experimental or abstract but still Danny Brown maintains his essence through the songs. Some samples in this album are amazing, specially the strings in Change Up, the one in Dirty Laundry, the ... read more

DaBaby - Baby On Baby
47

When this album came out the world got to know Dababy. I wouldn't say he sounded refreshing or original, but at least listening to a Dababy song wasn't as frustrating as it is today. This album clearly hasn't passed the time test.

He's been doing the same track over and over for a few years now. Not only he always flows the same. The instrumentals, the deliveries, the vocals, the ad-libs and the themes are also the same. I'm not expecting Dababy to change his whole style every song, but it ... read more

The Notorious B.I.G. - Life After Death
88

Biggie's Life After Death is without a doubt one of the most legendary hip-hop double albums. So many iconic moments in this project...However, it is almost 2 hours long, which is a lot, but it doesn't feel that long. It's very entertaining at all times.

Instrumentally, this is as good as Ready to Die. Tracks like Hypnotize, Kick In the Door, N***** Bleed or Notorious Thugs are perfect when it comes to production. However, I think that Biggie's lyrical performances on Ready to Die are slightly ... read more

Run The Jewels - RTJ4
89

Used to think that RTJ3 was better, but I changed my mind up. I think that it's not even close tbh, RTJ sweeps and the only installment better than this one is RTJ2.

This is without a doubt the most social comentary they have ever done and I'm all here for it. El-P production is as amazing as always. yankee and the brave (ep. 4) is probably the best instrumental on here. I also love the one on the ground below.

The lyricism is incredible. Killer Mike has insane verses on this project. The ... read more

Joey Bada$$ - B4.DA.$$
85

B4.DA.$$ is Joey Bada$$ first studio album and while being amazing, it's far from his best. This album, like 1999 is very reminiscing of 90s hip-hop instrumentally and thematically. There's a lot of boom bap and great raps in here. It's a very consistent listen too, there's no bad songs in this album. Some bits of jazz here and there too.

Favorite songs: Paper Trail$, On & On, Like Me, Belly of the Beast, Chris Conscious, O.C.B.

Young Thug - Beautiful Thugger Girls
72

Beautiful Thugger Girls is a great trap and country blend with incredible cuts, but not every track hit the same. The highlights in this project are actually incredible, tracks like Family Don’t Matter are amazingly written and performed. The instrumentals in this album, for the most part, are far from being generic. In fact, almost everything about this sound is very entertaining. Thug’s flows and vocal inflexions are what shines above all in this project as he usually does. There ... read more

Wu-Tang Clan - Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)
94

36 Chambers is one of the most iconic hip-hop albums of all time and it's surely a classic. As soon as you listen to this masterpiece it takes you back to that 93' vibe. Very few albums have the ability to transport you back in time and space, but this is one of them.

I would say that this album is almost flawless. Every Wu-Tang member kills it in this project. From Gza to Rza, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Ol' Dirty Bastard, Inspectah Deck, Method Man... Every single one of them. Sonically, it's ... read more

Isaiah Rashad - Cilvia Demo
83

Cilvia Demo is Isaiah Rashad's debut project with TDE and it's far from disappointing. It's one of the most smooth performances in years. It has many highlights.

I personally like more The Sun's Tirade, but the highs in this album are higher. There's no track in The Sun's Tirade like Heavenly Father, which I consider to be Isaiah's best ever song. In Cilvia Demo, Isaiah's flows and hooks are amazing. He's probably the smoothest he's ever been in this project. Sza and Jean Deaux's features on ... read more

MF DOOM - Operation: Doomsday
89

First things first. R.I.P. MF DOOM. One of the goats.

Operation: Doomsday is MF DOOM's debut record and one of his most distinguished LPs. DOOM was one of the greatests Mcs from the very start. In this album, there are already DOOM's distinctive rhyme patterns and complex bars. The production is top level, but lyrically, he's always been in a league of his own. I actually think he's the best lyricist of all time.

Favorite songs: Doomsday, Rhymes Like Dimes, Go with the Flow, Who You Think I ... read more

Various Artists - Black Panther: The Album
75

Black Panther: The Album is one of my favorite soundtracks of the last decade. Of course the pressence of Kendrick Lamar is probably the most remarkable thing about this project, but there are many other artists that do a great job in their respective songs.

For instance, Jorja Smith's vocals on I Am are amazing. I also love Jay Rock on King's Dead adn The Weeknd on Pray For Me. There eare also some letdowns in this soundtrack. The Travis and Kendrick collab "Big Shot" is the ... read more

DJ Shadow - Endtroducing.....
92

Endtroducing may be my favorite instrumental hip-hop album of all time now that I think about it. It's definetly between Donuts and this one for sure. That's how good this album is.

This is obviously DJ Shadow's magnum opus. Endtroducing has some of the best drum patterns, sampling and breakdowns i've ever heard. From the Piano on "Building Steam with a Grain of Salt" to the saxophone on "What Does Your Soul Look Like, Pt. 1", there are many highlights on this classic ... read more

Stik Figa × Conductor Williams - Valley of Dry Bones
67

This is a cool EP right here.

If you like great instrumentals and rhymes you'll probably like this project. It's really short and enjoyable. Conductor Williams kills it as usual.

Favorite songs: Mama Was Right Pt2, 4Dolph.

Jabee & Blu - I
52

This one hurts.

I think I have never heard before a Jabee song and honestly, I only listened to this EP because of Blu. This EP is nothing crazy or outstanding. Just some beats and rhymes. Maybe a little disappointing for how legendary Blu is.
Some beats on here are really weak. Some tracks are horribly mixed too. Don't really get the point of this release.

Favorite songs: Duke Lucky.
Least favorite songs: MELODIE LINGERS ON.

Lil Baby - It's Only Me
36

Bro... This is just trash.

23 songs of the same flows, same beats, same everything. Everything is very generic. Lacks personality. Lacks substance. Lacks pretty much everything that makes the difference between a great album and a bad/mid one. Not saying he's not trying, he just missed. Some songs are better than others. But as an album, it's pretty bad.

Of course it's going to do impressive numbers, but mainstream hip-hop is just uninspiring lately (except the kendricks, the tylers, ... read more
