Just a vapid, un-impressive Charlie Mingus LP.
Mos Def solo auting gives us uplifting preching in Fear Not of Man, incredible samples in Hip Hop, Love and Ms. Fat Booty, hard hitters Speed Law and Do It Now, and the masterful confusion of Got. Why is UMI Says so beautiful? Rock n Roll is an amazing track y'all are sleeping on. 3-part Brooklyn is so funny and artsy. Then Yasin's magnum opus verse in Mathematics and the instrumental closer is one of the best endings to a hip hop album.
Quirky and bipolar. A sister album to Meddle, which contained the long piece in side B rather than side A. Atom Heart Mother's side B is but a bunch of mushed leftovers in comparison to the center piece.
Interesting the way in which Eminem had 3 debut records, each with a different personality. Slim Shady stands out from the three as the most outrageous.
From the very best Charly García made in his entire career. Incomprehensibly sofisticated and complex music for the young guys who were making it.
Fantastic music - cringy title (I know it spells SIMBI and it's so forced)
It's a great portrait of him as an artist at that point in time, but so are the 3 or 4 albums he made afterwards. Highlights? umm... Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat is hilarious, Visions of Johanna and Just Like a Woman seem to be the prettiest ballads. I don't really enjoy the closer, so the album ends up too long, but not long enough to make 20 minutes on each side of the vinyl, so it overcompensates and underdelivers at the same time.
I'm a big Hancock fan and Cantaloupe Island is a very good song, but the rest of this album is either cliché like the first two tracks or weird-ass like The Egg.
Step aside Paul McCartney, step aside John Lennon, my boy George is gonna have the best solo record. Just a massive, monumental drop from the hidden gem himself: George Harrison. All the songs rule. Even the Apple Jam is fantastic.
Soulful and laid back. The Revolution Will Not Be Televised is the kind of artistic piece that made him progress into something like H2Ogate Blues. Great to own, just very humble, some great songs.
