really ends with a whimper but honestly this is not as bad as people would have you believe
a very solid effort, with the dark side greatly overshadowing the light side, scattered with just a few too many standard formulaic Peter Gabriel tracks
The beats are great, but occasionally they get completely washed out, and the vocal delivery is horrendous
the first half of this album is borderline bad, the second half of this album is borderline phenomenal. Definitely overrated it on first listen, but not as drastically as I initially thought on booting it up again
Almost nothing redeeming about this album, deluxe or standard release
Slow start and weak finish, but the 2nd Act of this record is golden
it doesn't all hit like other records, but it's more solid Snow Strippers goodness if you're not tired of that yet
Definitely like the first half more than the second, but still very high quality from front to back
Some glorious highs, only occasionally getting a bit lost in it's own grandeur and failing to execute to the fullest
Still my biggest surprise of the year. Even with a few minor duds this is still an excellent genre transition and one of the best albums of the year, from an artist who's never appealed to me much before now
There are a lot of duds across the middle of the record, but the start and end are so strong I can't help but feel this could have been a 45-50 min masterpiece
Weak ending. The last two songs are not bad by any means, but they also do not fit the tone of the album, most certainly not in the spot in the tracklist that they arrive
A couple songs on the tail end falter ever so slightly to prevent this from achieving perfection
The genre-mashing doesn't always work, but when it does it makes for great listening
